Boldt From the Blue

There are reasons we learn to discriminate. The ability to generalize increases the chance of survival. Clues both subtle and otherwise help us to distinguish friend from foe at a glance, so that we can prepare our defenses or avoid confrontation. Unfortunately, these instincts are less effective in a dystopia like Los Angeles, where every stranger you encounter is a potential threat.

Consider this story:

Surveillance video shows a man, wearing a neon yellow jacket, appearing to intentionally push a complete stranger into the path of an oncoming box truck.

The man is then seen walking away while the victim ended up stuck under the truck’s tire until a good Samaritan motioned for the driver to back up and free him.

The victim suffered a collapsed lung and is in critical condition.

The video is horrifying:

The suspect is a visibly insane 41-year-old homeless person named Garrett Joseph Boldt. As for a possible motive, Boldt “allegedly took a bracelet that the man had dropped when he was pushed.”

He is also accused of punching a woman later that afternoon at a bus stop at West First and South Hill Street, and tackling a woman to the ground on Tuesday morning at West Seventh and Hill streets.

After the third attack, Boldt was finally arrested.

There are countless more lunatic derelicts where Boldt came from. The Left Coast has been drawing them like flies, from across America and far beyond.

Imagine Garrett Joseph Boldt with a firearm in a school or church. But restricting our Second Amendment rights will not make anyone safer, if only because those willing to break the law can acquire firearms regardless of laws. We need to go back to locking up psychos.
