January 1968: "Hello Goodbye" was # 1 this week

The Beatles started 1968 with “Hello Goodbye” as the # 1 song on Billboard and “Magical Mystery Tour” rushing to the top of the LP charts.

The single was a rather catchy tune introduced to US fans on The Ed Sullivan Show.  It showed the guys wearing their Sgt Pepper’s uniforms.   

The B-side was “I am the walrus” from the BBC movie never shown in the US.   It did not get a lot of airplay as I recall.
