Weather Hazards

Hazardous weather is not expected today. A storm system will arrive this weekend and there will be a period of snow and sleet mixed with rain and some snow is expected with little or no accumulation. The Highlands Plateau may receive an inch or so of snow and a little freezing rain that will make driving briefly hazardous. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook and it has been posted below for your convenience.

Hazardous Weather Outlook
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
328 PM EST Thu Jan 10 2019

A low-pressure system will bring precipitation to the area early Saturday morning through at least Sunday. Temperatures should be cold enough for the precipitation to begin as a wintry mix across the mountains and foothills. Across parts of western North Carolina, mainly the northwest Piedmont, foothills, northern mountains, and French Broad River valley, a wintry mix with a trend toward sleet Saturday evening and then freezing rain Sunday morning appears to be the most likely outcome at this time, with some sleet and ice accumulation possible. Outside of those areas, the precipitation will most likely change to rain by Saturday evening. However, there is quite a bit of uncertainty with this system regarding timing, location of wintry precipitation, and precipitation amounts. Further developments will determine where and when a Winter Storm Watch might be issued.
