Failed Entrepreneur AOC Failed to Pay Her Taxes

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a true socialist. Despite the billions of people it has lifted out of poverty, she denounces capitalism as an “irredeemable” approach to economics that must be rejected in favor of massive tax and spend government. She says we should be “excited” about getting automated out of our jobs, so long as Big Government is there to give us other people’s money for doing nothing, while suggesting that she would support a 90% tax on corporations to pay for this. She has advocated marginal income tax rates of 70% to help finance her socialist Green New Deal. Yet despite this enthusiasm for exorbitant levels of taxation, she has neglected to pay her own taxes:

Brook Avenue Press, a company she founded in 2012 to publish children’s books in The Bronx, owes the state $1,870.36 in corporate taxes, public records show.

The state slapped the company with a warrant on July 6, 2017, two months after Ocasio-Cortez announced her candidacy to run against Democratic incumbent Joe Crowley for the district that encompasses parts of Queens and The Bronx.

Warrants are filed as a last resort against scofflaws who won’t pay their taxes.

Brook Avenue Press was intended to glorify urban hellholes to children, like they do on Sesame Street. Her venture failed despite government assistance.

The company relied on cheap office space in a city-subsidized program to help small businesses in The Bronx.

Someone who starts fresh out of college as an entrepreneur, fails, then becomes a socialist firebrand might remind you of girls who let themselves go to seed and embrace lesbianism after a bad experience with boys. The kind of people who succeed in a free market system work hard and often have to get up off the ground and try again. Thus the appeal of socialism to the kind of people who don’t succeed except in unreal worlds like politics. As Thomas Lifson puts it,

[AOC] is a total failure at anything requiring practical responsibility, attention to detail, and following the law. After failing, she retreated into the gauzy generalizations of socialism. It is so much easier than running a business to appropriate other people’s money — from the successful ones who do follow the rules and work the 70 hour weeks necessary to make a success of an entrepreneurial venture, juggling the balls, bearing the risk, and ultimately succeeding. That money can support the lifestyles of “those unwilling to work,” but only until they “eventually run out of other people’s money” – as is happening in Venezuela right now.
