Three Dems to compete for Two Monmouth Freeholder nominations

The Monmouth County Democrats will endorse their nominees Sheriff, Freeholder and State Assembly in Districts 11,12 13 and 30 on Saturday morning, 10 a.m., at a “mini-convention” to be held at the Portuguese Club of Long Branch.

NewJerseyGlobe reported earlier this week that the Dems had four candidates vying to for the two Freeholder nominations. MMM has learned that one of the candidates, Elizabeth Lawrence of Marlboro, a staffer of Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) has withdrawn as a candidate. When we called Lawrence at Schaer’s Passaic office to confirm her withdrawl, the person who answered the phone said the staff was not allowed to talk about campaigns and abruptly ended the call.

Jordan E. Modell of Asbury Park, the founder of a data consulting firm, Moira Nelson, recently of Asbury Park, an intimate apparel consultant and designer who was appointed to the Bloomfield (Essex County) Civil Rights Commission last year,and Michael Penna, Long Branch, a teacher in Marlboro, will compete for the nominations to challenge Republicans, Freeholder Director Tom Arnone and Nick DiRocco, a Wall Township Committeeman.

Arnone and DiRocco were endorsed by acclamation at the Monmouth County Republican Convention last Saturday at iPlayAmerica in Freehold Township.
