Happy # 81 to Jimmie Hall from the 1965 AL champs Minnesota Twins

In my book “Cubanos in Wisconsin“, I wrote about the Minnesota Twins, the 1965 AL champs.   They were the first team that I followed after arriving in Wisconsin back in 1964.

We say happy birthday Jimmie Hall, one of my favorite players on those Minnesota teams.    Hall was born in North Carolina on this day in 1938.

Hall had a quick start in the majors:  33 HR and 80 RBI in his rookie season of 1963.   

In 1965, Hall hit .285, 20 HR and 88 RBI.   He was part of a lineup that included Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew, AL batting champ Tony Oliva, AL MVP Zoilo Versalles and power hitter Bob Allison.

Hall played 4 seasons with the Twins:  98 HR and 288 RBI.    He was traded to the Angels in 1967 and bounced around several teams until his retirement in 1970.
