Homicidal Somali Cop Mohamed Noor Found Guilty

Remember Somali police officer Mohamed Noor? Minneapolis politicians were delighted to have him on the force. No doubt apparatchiks smoothed over any shortcomings in his qualifications for the sake of Affirmative Action. Noor racked up three complaints against him in only 1 year since completing training and then shot Justine Damond in the face for no rational reason. Surreally yet predictably, the odious Washington Post came to his defense. At least some justice will be done:

Former Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday in the 2017 death of Justine Damond, an unarmed woman who was fatally shot shortly after she called 911 to report a possible rape. …

The former officer was found guilty of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. However, the jury found him not guilty of second-degree murder.

Noor got a break. If you pull out a gun and shoot an innocent, unarmed woman in the face while she is talking to you, that should qualify as at least second-degree murder.

Nonetheless, the Somali-American Police Association is unsatisfied with the verdict. From its statement:

“SAPA believes the institutional prejudices against people of color, including officers of color, have heavily influenced the verdict of this case. The aggressive manner in which the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office went after Officer Noor reveals that there were other motives at play other than serving justice.”

On the contrary, a white officer shooting a nonthreatening black woman in the face would have had the book thrown at him.

“SAPA fears the outcome of this case will have a devastating effect on police morale and make the recruitment of minority officers all the more difficult.”

No doubt SAPA will increase pressure on pols to make sure this doesn’t prevent more Mohamed Noor types from being hired at the expense of the more qualified but less politically privileged.
