Climate Despair Shatters Fragile Mental Health of Moonbats

The brighter progressives — the ones driving the agenda, like Saikat Chakrabarti — understand that the global warming hoax is about imposing centralized control over the economy, and that all the silly hype about the world coming into the end if the climate continues to fluctuate like it always has is a smokescreen to obscure their Stalinist agenda. But among the liberal herd, climate doom is real. The nuttier they are by nature, the more likely moonbats are to take the media’s rhetoric seriously. The result: climate despair.

Vice reports from inside the leftist loony bin. We are introduced to 37-year-old Meg Ruttan Walker, a former teacher in chilly Kitchener, Ontario, who finds nice summer weather stressful because it reminds her that according to liberal dogma, warm weather is bad. At least she finally got help…

It felt like there was nowhere to go, and although she had spoken to her primary care doctor about anxiety, she hadn’t sought help with her mental health. Suddenly, she was contemplating self-harm. “Though I don’t think I would have hurt myself, I didn’t know how to live with the fear of… the apocalypse, I guess? My son was home with me and I had to call my friend over to watch him because I couldn’t even look at him without breaking down,” Ruttan Walker said. She eventually checked herself into an overnight mental health facility.

Her case is extreme, but many people are suffering from what could be called “climate despair,” a sense that climate change is an unstoppable force that will render humanity extinct and renders life in the meantime futile.

Here’s another victim of climate despair:

Maisy Rohrer, a 22-year-old developmental researcher at New York University, has been struggling to cope with climate change for years. “I guess the despair started when I was 18, and I began learning about how much the earth was changing, and I’d have full-blown panic attacks about the arctic sea ice melting, and the polar bears starving, and I’d call my mom telling her life was pointless,” she said. She believed at the time that the human race “should be wiped out.”

The desire among some of its proponents to wipe out the entire human race is what separates liberalism from other evil ideologies like communism and Islam.

Climate despair is so common among moonbats these days that they have as many terms for it as Eskimos do for snow. These include eco-nihilism, climate nihilism, and human futilitarianism. The connection between global warming gullibility and nihilism helps explain why liberals support political candidates who openly advocate the destruction of the economy. According to Vice, some lefty intellectuals “not only take our imminent doom as an article of faith, but seem to welcome it.”

It is fun to laugh at global warming Kool Aid guzzlers, and laughter might actually help shake them loose from their pernicious delusions. But it’s not as funny when politicians exploit their silly beliefs to impose disastrous policies, or when their doomy ideology spreads despair to innocent kids. Psychologists in Sweden (where climate despair is known as klimatångest) connect global warming hysteria with the finding that “an increasing number of young people are affected by anxiety and depression.”

Meanwhile,

[A]n Australian think tank called climate change “a near- to mid-term existential threat to human civilization.”

No doubt this hyperbolic lunacy helps generate lucrative publicity, but they should give some thought to the little kids and mentally fragile adults who might think this politically motivated malarkey is on the level.

That’s enough gloominess; let’s have some comic relief. A climatologist who calls climate despair “doomism” issues the following warning:

“Unfortunately there’s some bad science behind much of the ‘doomism,’” he said. “There is no need to exaggerate or misstate what the science has to say.”

Now for the punchline: the climatologist who said this is Michael Mann, global warming Lysenkoist, fabricator of the infamous hockey stick graph, and hider of the decline. ClimateGate made his name synonymous with the corruption of science so as to generate hysteria for the sake of grant money and leftist ideology.
