Construction halted, for now

Work on the Mountain Valley Pipeline is now halted at nearly all stream crossings in West Virginia and Virginia, thanks to a federal court ruling and a suspended Army Corps of Engineers permit. We’re working to make sure it’s permanently stopped.

Working toward energy democracy in Tennessee

More than 1,200 members and guests of Powell Valley Electric Cooperative gathered in the rural community of Sneedville to vote at the co-op’s annual membership meeting. The second-highest PVEC voter turnout in recent history saw members waiting hours in the hot sun to vote for their board representatives.

Power play

Utility giants like Duke Energy, Dominion Energy and FirstEnergy are continuing to push plans that endanger our air, water and climate while increasing costs for ratepayers. But while these utilities have traditionally wielded tremendous influence over the state governments that regulate them, public interest groups are now building the political power to counter utilities’ clout.

Black lung survivors make a stand

Residents of Southwest Virginia went to Washington, D.C., to tell Congress about the plight of their neighbors, friends, family members and other coal miners with black lung disease, and to ask that Congress ensure funding continues for their care.
