Tell Kaine and Warner: Don’t let Dominion change pipeline rules

Last December, a federal court said Dominion Energy’s plan to cross the Appalachian Trail with the 600-mile Atlantic Coast Pipeline was illegal, and rejected the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of the crossing. Now Dominion wants Congress to change the law. ACT NOW and tell Senators Kaine and Warner to oppose any legislation that makes way for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (more details below).

Dominion Energy is in trouble. It has been five years since the electric monopoly announced that it would build the massive fracked-gas Atlantic Coast Pipeline from West Virginia, across the mountains, through Virginia and the coastal plain of North Carolina. Impacted landowners and thousands of others from across Virginia have risen up in resistance to the ACP, which is more than 50 percent over budget (now a shocking $7.5+ billion) and two years behind schedule.

Last December, a federal court said Dominion’s plan to cross the Appalachian Trail was illegal, and rejected the U.S. Forest Service’s approval of the crossing. Now Dominion is calling on Congress to come to its rescue and asking our elected officials to simply change the law.

The Forest Service approval is just one of seven permits for the project that federal courts have overturned or suspended, all because of Dominion’s careless route selection and rushed permitting. It’s increasingly clear that the ACP is not needed to meet electricity and gas demand — yet electricity customers in Virginia and North Carolina would be forced to pay for it.

Don’t let Dominion change the rules! Tell Senators Kaine and Warner to protect mountain streams, family farms, private property, water supplies — and the Appalachian Trail that so many cherish.

Please do not change federal law to make way for the unneeded and destructive ACP.
