Hello everyone, and welcome once again to Be the Light Daily. I’m your host Rita Phillips, and
I’m glad you’ve decided to join us today for this very important topic. We are going to be discussing abortion in America. 46 years after the wrongfully decided case of Roe v. Wade, here we are, not talking about added restrictions on abortion, but unfortunately we will be discussing the left’s lurch to the far left and the very sick proposition of infanticide.

As I am prone to do, having been a former history teacher, let’s begin with a look at the past and how we got here.

The History of Eugenics

Although I’ve spoken of this in a previous podcast, we need to go back to the beginning of the twentieth century. Eugenics was a progressive belief and pseudoscience that held that society would be better served if certain portions of the population never had the opportunity to have children. Among those deemed “not fit” to have children were the poor, immigrants, non-whites, degenerates, and the feebleminded. In fact, eugenicists wanted to create a race of thoroughbreds–white, mentally and physically strong, as well as from the “right” class of society.

So, how did they plan to implement this plan? Well, they held fairs called “Fitter Family Fairs” where everyone who attended freely answered questions about their family background. Little did they know if they were deemed unfit, they would be rounded up and sterilized involuntarily. Many notable individuals were eugenicists. Among them were President Woodrow Wilson, President Teddy Roosevelt, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., HG Wells, George Bernard Shaw, Jacques Cousteau, Margaret Sanger, and believe it or not, Helen Keller, who was herself blind and mute.

Margaret Sanger, who founded the American Birth Control League which was the forerunner of Planned Parenthood, wrote prolifically on and spoke often about the reasons for eugenics. She called African Americans “human weeds, reckless breeders, spawning…human beings who never should have been born.” Moreover, she explained, “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.” Additionally, she laid out her strategy for eliminating those she deemed “feebleminded.” Her plans included compulsory sterilization and segregating the weak minded to farm-like prisons where they would be relegated to a lifetime of farm work. Furthermore, she opined, “The most merciful thing that a large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.

Are you getting all this, folks? Eugenics, which included forced sterilization and abortion for anyone who was not wealthy and white, had at its main aim to create a race of thoroughbreds. If this sounds like racism, it is. If this reminds you of Hitler’s plan to create a master race, you would be right. In fact, while Hitler was imprisoned for a botched putsch on the German government, he wrote Mein Kampf, and in it he glowingly referenced several American eugenicists for their efforts in ridding America of “the unfit.” This was well before Hitler ordered all Jews to forced labor in concentration camps (similar to the farm-like prisons in America) and well before he implemented the “final solution” to the Jewish problem. This final solution was the eventual extermination of six million Jews. This, then, is the ignominious inception of today’s Planned Parenthood. And, friends, all Americans who supported Sanger’s efforts and believed in eugenics were progressives, nearly all from the Democrat party.

The Angel of Death:  Josef Mengele

Next, I want to discuss one SS officer in Hitler’s regime and the horrors of what he did during the Holocaust.  That man was the notorious Dr. Josef Mengele, also known as The Angel of Death. During his tenure at Auschwitz, one of his jobs was to select those who would live and those who would immediately be sent to the gas chambers as they exited the cattle cars upon arrival at the camp.  Whereas other SS officers needed to drink until inebriated to conduct the selection, Mengele enjoyed his task, smiling during the process and often whistling a tune.

Once, upon the arrival of ten dump trucks loaded with children, Mengele stood with other officers around a firepit.  The truck pulled up to the firepit where Mengele and the other officers began throwing children into the pit. The horrifying screams of the children being burned alive didn’t faze the doctor.  In fact, if by some miracle a child managed to crawl out, Mengele and the other officers used sticks to push them back in.

But, Josef Mengele’s notoriety involved so much more than this.  The doctor was most interested in twins and in creating a master race genetically.  1500 twins were brought to him through the selection process, and initially he fed them better and treated them better than the other inmates of Auschwitz.  This was done, of course, to gain their confidence, but experimentation was Mengele’s chief goal.

Let’s take a look at some of his most infamous experiments. In one procedure he injected chemicals into several sets of twins’ eyes without anesthesia in an attempt to change eye color.  In another, he selected seven sets of twins with different eye colors, killed them, dissected them, and then sent their eyes to a German clinic for analysis. In one of his most hideous experiments, the good doctor sewed the backs of a set of twins together, attempting to connect the vessels and organs in the procedure.  And, as always, he did this without anesthesia. The pitiful twins developed gangrene and quickly died.

Some of the other experiments the doctor performed included castrating children, performing sex change operations, removing limbs and organs, and injecting his patients with a variety of lethal germs.  Listen to the words of one of Mengele’s victims, Moshe Offer, who actually survived the experimentation. “Dr. Mengele had always been more interested in my brother,Tibi. I am not sure why–perhaps because he was the older twin.  Mengele made several operations on Tibi. One surgery on his spine left my brother paralyzed. He could not walk anymore. Then they took out his sexual organs. After the fourth operation, I did not see Tibi anymore. I cannot tell you how I felt.  It is impossible to put into words how I felt. They had taken away my father, my mother, my two older brothers, and now, my twin…”

This background information on eugenics in America, leading to the inception of Planned Parenthood, and Hitler’s final solution, as well as the horrifying experiments Dr. Josef Mengele performed are vitally important as we consider how abortion is an American Holocaust.

The “Super Coil”

Fast forward to 1972, one year before the landmark case of Roe v Wade legalizing abortion in the United States. Harvey Karman, a Californian who had served two and a half years in prison for performing illegal abortions in the 1950s, came up with an insidious device he termed the “Super Coil.” He wanted to experiment with it to see if it would quickly and efficiently abort unwanted babies, but the problem was he wasn’t a doctor, so he enlisted a Philadelphia physician named Kermit Gosnell to work with him. The pair bused fifteen poor women who wanted abortions to a Philadelphia clinic. It was, ironically, Mother’s Day. The women did not know they were to be guinea pigs in this hideous experiment.

You see, the Super Coil was actually “many razors coated with a protective gel and wrapped into a ball before being placed into a mother’s uterus.” The gel would warm up and melt which caused the razors to spring open and cut the baby to pieces. Nine of the fifteen women suffered serious complications including a punctured uterus, hemorrhaging, infections, and in one case the necessity for a hysterectomy. All of the women lived, but their babies were annihilated by the torturous device.

So what happened to Karman and Dr. Gosnell? Karman was convicted for practicing medicine without a license, but later his conviction was overturned. Absolutely nothing happened to Dr. Kermit Gosnell. He fled to the Bahamas for several years, but returned to Philadelphia and set up an abortion clinic innocuously called the Women’s Medical Society in a poor, predominately African American neighborhood.

America’s Biggest Serial Killer

Dr. Gosnell ran the clinic for over thirty years with the aid of untrained personnel. The word filthy doesn’t begin to describe the conditions in the abortion clinic.  Numerous cats wandered the facility, urinating and defecating anywhere they pleased. Plastic bags filled with the remains of aborted babies lined the steps and the hallways.  With only one bathroom, some patients urinated in the hallways and the puddles were not cleaned up. The “operating table” was smeared with blood from past procedures, and the surgical tools were often not cleaned but used on numerous patients before any attempt was made to wash them.

Gosnell employed women and girls as young as fifteen to administer heavy duty drugs to sedate those seeking late term abortions.  You should know that in Pennsylvania, it is a crime to perform an abortion after 24 weeks, but that didn’t stop Gosnell. The doctor rarely arrived at his clinic until early evening, but the effect of the sedatives as well as the labor-inducing drugs administered by his aids often resulted in the woman going into labor and delivering a live baby.  You see it’s a messy business trying to abort a baby 24 weeks or older, so Gosnell fully expected the women to deliver their babies. After he arrived at the clinic, his job was to take a pair of scissors and snip the spinal cord of the living, crying baby. He called this “ensuring fetal demise” or “snipping.” Afterwards, in many cases, he would sever the baby’s feet and save them in jars which lined one of his cabinets. No one can make sense of this, but it does remind one of Mengele’s experiments at Auschwitz.

Gosnell performed hundreds if not thousands of these procedures during his thirty plus years running the Women’s Medical Society.  No one can know for sure because he destroyed many files. However, in one prosecutable case, Dr. Gosnell “snipped” the spine of a baby boy who weighed nearly six pounds.  His mother had been seven and a half months pregnant. He joked to an assistant that the baby was so big he could “walk me to the bus stop.” But, the doctor saved Sundays for the really big babies.  He didn’t want his assistants to observe these, so he employed his wife to help out with these procedures.

Gosnell’s clinic catered to women who had been turned down at other clinics because they were too far into their pregnancies.  His was strictly a “money talks” operation, and the bigger the baby, the more it would cost the woman.

During Gosnell’s trial, the media did its best to not show up and not report any of this man’s horrendous crimes.  It wasn’t until a reporter, JD Mullane, posted an image on social media depicting empty seats reserved for the press, that the press was shamed into covering the trial. Why?  Because to the leftist media, this was an attack on abortion and a woman’s right to choose. Really? A woman’s right to choose to kill a baby she had given birth to? That, my friends, is not choice; it is infanticide.  Thank the good Lord for the jury who heard all the facts and convicted Gosnell of three counts of first degree murder. In 2013, copping to a plea which ensured that his wife would not be prosecuted, Gosnell got life without the possibility of parole rather than the death sentence which he so richly deserved.  If you haven’t seen the movie based on the Gosnell case, you really should. It took the filmmakers years to attain the funding to produce it. They had to set up a Go Fund Me page because Hollywood was not about to produce a movie of this nature. I actually was one of the small donors, and I’m proud of the final product.  It’s only rated PG 13 and does not show anything gruesome, but instead focuses on the facts in the case. Enough Shame to Go All Around

You know Gosnell’s crimes could have been prevented, but so many people let these babies down. If Gosnell had been convicted and stripped of his license following the Mother’s Day Massacre of 1972, these babies might have lived. In addition, if the Philadelphia Department of Health had conducted regular inspections of the clinic, it would have been shut down. It’s worth noting that they only conducted one inspection in thirty years! It’s also notable that in Pennsylvania, beauty salons must be inspected yearly and can be shut down for any violations of sanitation procedures. Once again, I have to ask, why? The answer is politicians, whether left or right, do not want to touch the issue of abortion. In fact, the Department of Health official who was called to testify claimed that Republican Governor Ridge told the department not to conduct inspections of abortion clinics. Shame on you, Tom Ridge. The blood of those hundreds of babies are on your hands.

As horrifying as Kermit Gosnell’s story is, he is not alone. There are many doctors performing similar procedures in numerous states. They just haven’t been caught yet.

Planned Parenthood Sells Aborted Baby Body Parts

Let’s forge ahead and discuss Planned Parenthood and some of its unsavory practices. In 2015, undercover investigators met with several top officials from the organization to discuss the sale of aborted baby body parts. It’s important to understand that buying or selling human body parts is a federal felony under 42 US Code 274e. And, under 42 US Code 289g-2, commercial trafficking of body parts from an aborted baby is punishable by up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of up to $500,000. Listen now as Dr. Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, casually discusses selling aborted baby body parts over salad and wine. (Nucatola audio) I know part of that audio was hard to hear folks, but did you catch what she was saying? First she was asking what a research company might need regarding body parts. Then she explains Planned Parenthood has been very good at harvesting hearts, lungs, and livers. She goes on to describe how she doesn’t crush the abdomen, because of the needed organs, but she will crush the legs and the head of the baby to extract it. She then points out how she huddles with staff at the beginning of the day, so they can see what exactly they need to harvest and proceed accordingly. This is sick stuff, my friends.

And, let’s listen to Melissa Farrell, Director of Research for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, discuss the sale of aborted body parts and the company’s budgeting concerns all in one breath. (Farrell audio) I really don’t know how these people sleep at night.

Now listen to Dr. Amna Dermish, a 2nd Trimester Abortion Provider in Texas callously describe how she aims for the spine when aborting babies so she will have more intact baby cadavers to sell. (Dermish audio)

Mengele Has Nothing on Today’s Abortionists

I’m sure after you heard about the horrors of Dr. Mengele’s experiments at Auschwitz, you breathed a sigh of relief that someone as evil as Mengele was dead. That someone who was so callous as to destroy human life for the sole purpose of experimentation and research was in humanity’s distant past. However, I assure you those women you just heard, most of them doctors, who are able to cold-bloodedly discuss how they kill babies carefully to ensure tiny cadavers for top dollar are no less evil than Dr. Josef Mengele and will be judged for their deeds by God Almighty. Exodus explains, “When men strive together and hit a pregnant woman, so that her children come out, but there is not harm, the one who hit her shall surely be fined…But if there is harm, then you shall pay life for life…”
Folks, I believe the reason abortion seems to be such a “hands off” topic for most politicians and many Americans is because rarely are the details of how an abortion is performed made known to the public. In fact, Planned Parenthood has been extremely effective in their propaganda campaign explaining that what is growing in the woman is just a mass of cells and tissue.

But make no mistake, what is growing in the woman is a baby, a small human, and the procedure to kill the baby is both ghastly and torturous. If the procedure were done to any animal, there would be a public outcry like you can’t believe. How have we gotten here, where the lives of animals are more precious that a new human life with a soul?

What Really Happens During an Abortion?

So that there is no confusion about what actually occurs during an abortion, let’s listen to Dr. Antony Levatino who testified at a House Judiciary Committee hearing about the practice of abortion. 

I know Dr. Levatino’s words created graphic images in your head, but folks, we have to know what actually occurs if we are to fight this evil practice in our country. It’s ugly, grisly, brutal, and unfortunately hidden by the media and politicians. Knowing the truth can help us confront it. Edmund Burke, Irish philosopher in the 16th century, noted that “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” If we are godly people, we must not stand by and allow this practice to continue.

Partial Birth Abortion

So where are we today?  One would presume that Gosnell’s tale with all its graphic details would tamp down the abortion industry, but quite the contrary.  The left has dug in even deeper in their quest for the right for every woman to choose what she wants to do with an unwanted baby. Long gone is their adage that abortion should be “safe, legal, and rare.”

Let’s take up the issue of partial birth abortion.  This is a procedure fully endorsed by former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.  Recall that the former President did not want his daughters to suffer the consequences of their actions if they had sex before marriage.  Here is Barack in his own words: (Obama audio). Punished with a baby?  How about teaching them some morals, Mr. President? How about teaching them about abstinence and chastity?  How about teaching them that sex belongs in a marriage, not as a recreational pastime? How about explaining that a baby is a blessing from God and wonderfully made?

All right, let’s get back to partial birth abortion. I’m going to  read you the definition of partial birth abortion as it is found on the National Right to Life website:  “Partial birth abortion is a procedure in which the abortionist pulls a living baby feet first out of the womb and into the birth canal, except for the head, which the abortionist purposely keeps lodged just inside the cervix.  The abortionist punctures the base of the baby’s skull with a surgical instrument, such as a long surgical scissors or a pointed hollow metal tube called a trochar. He then inserts a catheter into the wound, and removes the baby’s brain with a powerful suction machine.  This causes the skull to collapse, after which the abortionist completes the delivery of the now dead baby.” Talk about painful and gruesome. I just don’t see how this comports with a physician’s Hippocratic oath to “first do no harm.”

It’s interesting to note that in 2003, 18 USC, the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act was enacted, and in 2007 its constitutionality was upheld by the Supreme Court in Gonzales v Carhart.

Legislating Infanticide

So, if that’s the case, what’s up with New York and Virginia? On January 22nd of this year (2019), New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the Reproductive Health Act. What does that mean? Basically the bill legalizes the ability of health care professionals to kill fully formed human babies up until the woman is about to give birth. Listen now to Governor Cuomo explaining that the bill he signed should actually be a constitutional amendment. (Cuomo audio)

Not to be outdone by New York, Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran has introduced legislation which would make it much easier for women to get third trimester abortions. Listen to her explain how her bill gets rid of all sorts of safeguards regarding abortion. (Tran audio) So to be clear, no more ultrasounds for the pregnant woman to view prior to having an abortion. No more 24 hour delay, so the woman can have time to truly consider such a monumental decision. No need to have the abortion in a hospital if it is a second or third trimester abortion, and only one doctor is necessary for third trimester abortions, not three. These safeguards are there to protect the woman and to provide informed decision making. Not necessary, says Delegate Kathy Tran. What is most horrifying, however, is that Ms. Tran sponsored legislation saving the cankerworm, a type of caterpillar, the same day she sponsored this abominable bill! These leftists have no sense of proportionality or shame. Thank goodness, after details of Tran’s bill made the news, there was a public outcry and the bill was defeated.

But how did Virginia Governor and pediatrician Ralph Northam feel about the bill? Let’s hear him explain his view.

Got that, folks, the baby would be kept comfortable until the mother decides if she wants to kill it or not. That, my friends, is infanticide. It is murder. This is outrageous, and any law that condones the killing of a human is heinous and should be opposed. Oh, and by the way, Governor Northam received $1.9 million dollars from Planned Parenthood to defeat his Republican opponent, Ed Gillespie, for the governorship of Virginia a little over a year ago. Can anyone say “vested interest”?

Think these new laws are specific to only New York and Virginia? Think again. Here are the states and one district that currently have no gestational limits on abortion: Alaska, Colorado, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington DC, and soon Rhode Island will join its ranks as lawmakers have already introduced a bill to make abortion legal up to birth.

It’s interesting to note, that the New York bill would allow health care practitioners who are not doctors to perform abortions. Troy Newman, Operation Rescue President, said it would be like “having a phlebotomist take out your gallbladder.” He went on to explain that third trimester abortions require a physician to perform them because the procedure requires special training, and even if a doctor performs them they are not necessarily safe. He concludes this will lead to more women dying, which is the exact opposite of what abortion proponents say they want. Could it be that this part of the law is necessary because many doctors will refuse to do the procedure? One can only speculate.

Never Again!

All right, we’ve covered a lot. Let’s conclude with this. After the end of World War II, as the atrocities inflicted on the Jewish population of Europe became known to the world, the term Holocaust was employed to describe it. Holocaust is defined as a “great destruction resulting in the extensive loss of life; a massive slaughter.”

Can we apply that term to abortion in the United States? Let’s see. Since the US made abortion legal in 1973, 61,024,111 babies have been aborted. That startling number is approximately a little over the entire population of Italy today. Still can’t envision that many babies? The Superdome in New Orleans can hold 76,000 people. It would take 803 Superdomes to hold all the babies aborted in the United States since Roe v Wade was made the law of the land.

In addition, can we say that Margaret Sanger and her eugenicist ilk became successful in eradicating certain races as a means to create a wealthy white race of thoroughbreds? Perhaps not, but the numbers of African Americans who have been aborted since 1973 is astounding. There have been 18,307,236 African American babies aborted, and it’s notable that many abortion clinics reside in poor, Black neighborhoods. Is this accidental? I don’t have the answers, but I’m not a big believer in coincidences.

What are perhaps the two biggest lies proponents of abortion continue to repeat in an effort to keep abortion legal and available are the following: most women have abortions because of rape, incest, or the life of the mother is in jeopardy, and abortion should be legal, safe, and rare. Did you know that this year there have only been 796 abortions due to rape or incest? And regarding “legal, safe, and rare,” the new reproductive laws in New York and Virginia don’t bear this out. These laws will not make abortion safe for those women seeking abortions in the third trimester, and the numbers alone testify that abortion is certainly not rare in the United States.

At the end of World War II, surviving Jews uttered the phrase, “Never Again.” When will we Americans stand up and say Never Again to abortion? When will we stand with God and say every life is important? Every life counts. And, make no mistake, these are human lives that are being torn apart limb by limb. The Bible reminds us in Jeremiah that God said, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you…” Moreover, Psalm 139 tells us, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are you works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. You eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

Further, the Bible is explicit in its condemnation of anyone shedding innocent blood. Proverbs states, “ There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood…”

“American Thinker” ran a piece a few days ago about this topic. I found it disconcerting to know that in New York where third trimester abortions are now legal up until birth, an individual can be imprisoned up to a year for selling a baby rabbit before it is eight weeks old. A baby rabbit! They also noted that ancient Roman women valued animals more than babies. Let’s not forget that the Roman culture collapsed due in part to decadence. If I may be allowed a metaphor. We are Rome on the precipice of collapse. We must fight to save the innocent, turn from our sinful natures, and call on God for help.

German Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemoller wrote a poem about the cowardice of the German people as the Nazis rose to power and targeted various groups for extinction. You may be familiar with it. All deference to Pastor Niemoller, I’ve kept the same context and changed the words.

First they came for the fetuses, and I did not speak out–
Because I was no longer a fetus.
Then they came for the babies, and I did not speak out–
Because I was no longer a baby.
Next they came for the mentally challenged, and I did not speak out–
Because I was intelligent.
Then they came for the physically challenged, and I did not speak out–
Because I was physically fit.
Soon they came for the aged, and I did not speak out–
Because I was not old.
Finally, they came for me–
And there was no one left to speak for me.

A Needed Prayer

Let’s end, as always with prayer:

Heavenly Father, glory be to you and only you. You are worthy to receive all glory. Thank you, Lord, for laying down your life on the cross and shedding your blood so that we might be redeemed and live to serve you, not ourselves. Help us, Oh Lord, fight the satanic forces that would deem little children expendable. Their blood cries out for justice. Hear their voices, Lord, and hear our prayers. Help us be strong in fighting this barbaric act in the name of a “woman’s choice.” Search these women’s hearts and convict them of their sin. Help them turn to you and repent of this evil practice. And, Lord, we ask that you also open the eyes and hearts of doctors like you did with Dr. Antony Levatino. Enable them to see those small humans as someone’s children. Empower them to say no to performing abortions on women. Finally, Lord, we ask that you also permit lawmakers to see that abortion is the taking of innocent life, and that you give them the mental and spiritual strength to confront the practice and try to end it. We ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.
