Ultra-Right Nationalists Are Preparing a New Revolution in Ukraine

March 31, 2019, is the day when Ukrainians are going to take part in two large-scale events at once. These are the Presidential elections and the Parliamentary elections. According to the latest public polls, the leading candidates are the leader of Batkivshchyna party Yulia Tymoshenko, actor and showman Volodymyr Zelensky, and the leader of the Opposition Platform – For Life party Yuriy Boyko. The mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi, the former head of the SSU and the Justice Party chairman Valentyn Nalyvaichenko, the leader of the Civil Position party Anatoliy Hrytsenko, the leader of the Radical Party Oleh Lyashko and others are also taking part in the elections.

Current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hasn’t declared his decision to seek re-election yet. However, his participation in the further elections is still undoubted: his campaign headquarters actively provides PR events all over the country. Nevertheless, the President has a big chance neither to get re- elected nor to go to the second round. It appears that Ukrainians have simply lost faith in Poroshenko’s sincerity and his ability to run the country. That’s proved by President’s low rating. Even such achievement of Poroshenko’s government as autocephaly of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine did not help to boost up president’s rating among his fellow countrymen.

For sure, the far rightists who have been influencing a lot the political life of Ukraine since the Maidan 2014 events chose not to remain uninvolved in the oncoming Presidential elections. It’s turned out the radicals have their own vision of the personality of the next President of Ukraine.

According to the order of the Right Sector command, which is a far rightist organization, in case either Tymoshenko or Zelensky wins the elections or they both go to the second round, large-scale protests will be organized in Kyiv within 24 hours. The main goal of the Right Sector is not to let these candidates take power because they are advocating the interests of oligarchs and Russian agents. Aiming to reach their goal, the far rightists are ready to show their power again as they did it during the overthrow of Yanukovich’s power in 2014. After all it was the radicals who eventually led Petro Poroshenko to the power via protests and riots on Maidan. Thus, taking into account high ratings of Tymoshenko and Zelensky who have a good chance of going to the second round, and unpopularity of Poroshenko who in theory could be their main opponent, Ukraine is threatened by a more large-scale and callous Maidan, which might cause terrible consequences for the entire country.
