Chris Pratt Defends His Church Against Ellen Page’s Bigoted Tweet
One of the most beloved actors in America, Chris Pratt, came under attack after he dared express his religious opinions on Stephen Colbert’s program earlier this month after he was asked about them, and now Pratt is responding.
The attack originally came from actress Ellen Page — who has put more focus on her identity as a lesbian than a thespian — after Pratt had quoted Christine Caine about living life as a celebrity.
“If the spotlight that is shining on you is brighter than the light that’s within you, it will kill you,” Pratt said.
Page responded in a tweet, demanding Pratt address his church’s anti-lgbt stance.
Pratt created an Instagram post that explained his church’s position as well as Jesus’s command to love one another from John 13:34:
It has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which hates a certain group of people and is “infamously anti-LGBTQ.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone.
Despite what the Bible says about my divorce, my church community was there for me every step of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering their love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race, or gender.
My faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or any group of people. My values define who I am. We need less hate in this world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man.
As previously covered in my article pertaining to Page’s demand that Pratt explain himself, The Hillsong Church Pratt attends does not kick out LGBT members, and the pastor actually considers their attendance a great thing. The only controversy came when a choir leader came out and wanted to marry a choir member. The man was taken from his leadership post.
This fact has gone completely unmentioned by Page as it eliminates her victim status as a member of the LGBT community, which she needs in order to continue to preach against Christianity, and the supposed hate it brings toward people like her. Once again, we’re seeing that the only bigot here is Page.
