Texas Lawmaker Spreads Seeds of Discord by Proposing a Masturbation Tax

Yes, she is pulling our leg in passing this bill, but it is also a waste of fertile tax dollars.

One of the tiresome arguments heard whenever the debate over federal funding for abortion rears up is that if we are to deny women the “right” to an abortion then men should also be equally denied access to male-centric items, such as Viagra prescriptions. As idiotic as those arguments are (removing funding is not denying a right, and if Viagra is covered by a health insurer that is the company’s decision to make) it has not stopped a state politician from making a grandstanding move.

In the Texas state legislature there is a proposal to pass a law to tax the practice of men self-pleasuring by Rep. Jessica Farrar, a Democrat (I know, shocker). Farrar’s bill proposes men be taxed $100 for each instance they endure self-gratification. There would also be a 24 hour waiting period for undergoing a colonoscopy, vasectomy, or the purchase of Viagra.

It is not clear what exactly is accomplished with delaying of those procedures, or how that would inhibit a man (well, maybe with the exception of the masturbation aspect.) What is also unclear is how exactly this would be enforced. Will males be required to wear some type of a phallic meter? Will low income citizens be exempted and as a result be granted pleasure privilege? Would this not encourage more illegal activity as prositution would be considered a cheaper form of relief???

What Farrar is trying to do is make a point, as the proponent of abortion rights (another shocker) states she is pointing out what she calls a sexist double-standard. Her proposal of course is rooted in what she sees as invasive and otherwise intrusive policy as applied to getting an abortion.

“Let’s look at what Texas has done to women,” Farrar told CNN. “What if men had to undergo the same intrusive procedures? Farrar’s bill would penalize men for masturbation because such behavior is a failure to preserve the sanctity of life and “an act against an unborn child.”

Uh, Jessica? Seminal fluid is not involved with “the sanctity of life”. Sperm cells are single-celled and do not develop beyond that without fertilization taking place. It seems odd that this detail needs to be pointed out to someone who hails from the self-described “party of science”, but here we are.

This bill of course stands zero chance of getting passed but Farrar, while engaging in a practice that Democrats normally decry loudly in the press — wasting of time and taxpayers money — is getting the supportive coverage in the sympathetic press she desired. CNN, for instance, used her farcical policy to highlight the issues of recent restrictions on abortions in the state.

In noting the steep drop in locations available to offer these services CNN described major sections of Texas as containing “an abortion clinic desert.”

So we should ignore the sophomoric behavior on display from Farrar and not disregard the onanistic practice she is engaging in with this bill. She is raising a larger issue, and one the media is dutifully taking on for her benefit. Just ignore the fact she is displaying abject ignorance, as she attempts to lecture in a condescending fashion. One fellow lawmaker in the legislature noted her stunted scientific grasp.

I’m embarrassed for Representative Farrar. Her attempt to compare to the abortion issue shows a lack of a basic understanding of human biology,” said Rep. Tony Tinderholt in a statement. “I would recommend that she consider taking a high school biology class from a local public or charter school before filing another bill on the matter.
