The New Yorker: The Reckoning of the SPLC

FINALLY, everyone is admitting that the SPLC is nothing but a scam:

“For those of us who’ve worked in the Poverty Palace, putting it all into perspective isn’t easy, even to ourselves. We were working with a group of dedicated and talented people, fighting all kinds of good fights, making life miserable for the bad guys. And yet, all the time, dark shadows hung over everything: the racial and gender disparities, the whispers about sexual harassment, the abuses that stemmed from the top-down management, and the guilt you couldn’t help feeling about the legions of donors who believed that their money was being used, faithfully and well, to do the Lord’s work in the heart of Dixie. We were part of the con, and we knew it.

Outside of work, we spent a lot of time drinking and dishing in Montgomery bars and restaurants about the oppressive security regime, the hyperbolic fund-raising appeals, and the fact that, though the center claimed to be effective in fighting extremism, “hate” always continued to be on the rise, more dangerous than ever, with each year’s report on hate groups. “The S.P.L.C.—making hate pay,” we’d say. …”

These people write about me all the time.

I’m listed on their maps of “hate groups” for sitting here by myself on my laptop in my house sharing opinions they dislike on politics, history, race relations and current events. These people are morally responsible for what happened in Charleston, Pittsburgh and New Zealand, not me.

I’ve always discouraged people from engaging in violence. It is the SPLC that stigmatizes them as “haters” and works so hard to destroy their personal lives. When you put a handful of mentally unbalanced people under enormous stress, what do you think is going to happen? They inevitably radicalize and snap but that is okay because the SPLC will assuredly be quoted in the media about it and will talk about what they are doing to fight it in their next direct mail fundraising appeal.

If I was put in charge of the SPLC and given half of its $319 million dollar endowment, I could assemble a team that could wipe out more “hate” in America in a single week than this racket has in its entire existence. The SPLC has reaped a windfall off making legitimate grievances, debates, subjects and policy disagreements politically toxic and by fanning the flames of political polarization and resentment until it is showered with shekels. It is a corrupt business model like the casinos, race tracks and bingo halls that you can find elsewhere in the Black Belt.
