Hitler’s Birthday

Editor’s Note: Adolf Hitler died in Berlin in 1945.

Yes, but Andrew, Adolf Hitler stirs bad memories for lots of folks. According to Wikipedia, 50 to 85 million people in the world during in the Second World War.

We don’t live in the Third Reich.

We don’t even live in Germany.

We don’t even live in the 20th century although lots of folks who are alienated from the present are nostalgic for that time period because of the way in which the Jew was toppled in Nazi Germany. There were positives and negatives in the Third Reich like every other regime in world history. My proposal is that we try to separate the good from the bad and create something new.

I mean … honestly, should we hate the autobahns because Hitler was for them? Should we hate art and architecture because Hitler was for it? Should we hate cancer research and rocket science because Hitler was for it? Should we hate animals and the environment because Hitler was for it? I would just say that is a very dumb way of looking at the world from the modern Left.

We’re not supposed to criticize the Jews in our society because Hitler criticized and dethroned them. That’s not allowed anymore. Similarly, it makes little sense to support global total war or lebensraum in Ukraine simply before Hitler was for it, but we don’t really support that anyway.

I will return later to offer some takes on what was good about the Third Reich, but for now I will just say that the Nazis had a sense of style. Currently, I don’t have the time to review Frederic Spotts’s book Hitler and the Power of Aesthetics right now though.
