Trump moves to strangle Iran oil exports… power
BATTLE FOR WORLD / WASHINGTONPOST | April 22, 2019: The article highlights that about one year after the United States decided to leave the Iran nuclear deal, the U.S. State Department is set to announce that all countries ‘will have to’ (= must) completely end their imports of Iranian oil or be subject to U.S. sanction penalties. This is an escalation, says the article, of the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign of the country of Iran, which seeks to force Tehran to end its illicit behavior around the world according to the State Department.
On Monday (April 22) morning, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will announce to the media that, as of May 2, the State Department will no longer grant sanctions waivers to countries that are currently importing Iranian crude or condensate, said two officials from the State Department. Last November (2018), the State Department issued 180-day waivers to eight countries to give them enough time to find alternative sources of oil, and now, their time will run out after Pompeo’s announcement.
