Bermuda Triangle: Ship Reappears 90 Years After Going Missing? (Photos)

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Speculation regarding if this story is real or not according to some Facebook comments. If someone sends in a forensics team let me know.

Havana| The Cuban Coast Guard announced this morning, that they had intercepted an unmanned ship heading for the island, which is presumed to be the SS Cotopaxi, a tramp steamer which vanished in December 1925 and has since been connected to the legend of the Bermuda Triangle.

The Cuban authorities spotted the ship for the first time on May 16, near a restricted military zone, west of Havana. They made many unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the crew, and finally mobilized three patrol boats to intercept it.

When they reached it, they were surprised to find that the ship was actually a nearly 100-year old steamer identified as the Cotopaxi, a name famously associated with the legend of the Bermuda Triangle. There was no one on board and the ship seemed to have been abandoned for decades, suggesting that this could actually be the tramp freighter that disappeared in 1925.

An exhaustive search of the ship led to the discovery of the captain’s logbook. It was, indeed, associated with the Clinchfield Navigation Company, the owners of the SS Cotopaxi, but hasn’t brought any clue concerning what happened to the ship over the last 90 years.

Cuban expert, Rodolfo Salvador Cruz, believes that the captain’s logbook is authentic. This document is full of precious information concerning the life of the crew before the ship’s disappearance, but the entries stop suddenly on December 1, 1925.

On 29 November 1925, the SS Cotopaxi departed Charleston, South Carolina, and headed towards Havana, Cuba. The ship had a crew of 32 men, under the command of Captain W. J. Meyer, and was carrying a cargo of 2340 tons of coal. It was reported missing two days later, and was unheard of for almost 90 years.

The Vice President of Council of Ministers, General Abelardo Colomé, announced that the Cuban authorities were going to conduct a thorough investigation to elucidate the mystery of the ship’s disappearance and reappearance.

“It is very important for us to understand what happened”  says General Colomé. “Such incidents could be really bad for our economy, so  want to make sure that this kind of disappearance doesn’t happen again. The time has come to solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle, once and for all.”

The Bermuda Triangle is a loosely defined region covering the area between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.

Popular culture has attributed many of the disappearances to paranormal and supernatural phenomena, or to the activity of extraterrestrial beings.  One explanation, even pins the blame on leftover technology from the mythical lost continent of Atlantis.

Despite the popularity of all these strange theories, most scientists don’t even recognize the existence of the Bermuda Triangle, and blame human mistakes and natural phenomena for the disappearances.

The mysterious reappearance of the SS Cotopaxi has, however, already generated a lot of interest in the scientific community and could push some experts to change their mind on the subject.

      • Jeffery Pritchett

Did you send in a forensics team?

        • Charas Mayhem

Forensic team? :???: Just need Google!

          • Jeffery Pritchett

I checked BIN to see if this story was already here and it was but a different type article same content. Not one comment on that article said it was fake. I post it and BOOM 10,000 hits and supposedly fake. lol The curse continues. I’m still not convinced 100 percent its fake without a forensics team. And if SNOPES is the answer I could have sworn I just saw a SNOPES people went to Jail for fraud in editor’s choice a few weeks ago.

            • Gir

Prove it’s fake news ? if I wanted to do that I’d be watching/reading mainstream news !

            • Bodger

Just google image: close encounters of the third kind Cotopaxi
              exact same ship.
              Another FAKE STORY!

            • Scanner Darko

Just about everything Pritchett puts out is fake.

It’s hilarious how he calls for a forensic team when a Google search of the material will show how fake this is in under a minute.

One minute. That’s all it takes. A twelve year old could disprove this. Pritchett cannot.

            • Jeffery Pritchett

Scanner its easy to sit back and lie and claim all I put out is fake stories when that simply isn’t true and I’ve admitted this story has its problems. But to sit back and say everything I do is fake is just a down out right lie. Its actually been quite sometime since I’ve had a scenario like this pop up. But no one remembers the good only the bad. Speaks loads of your character.

            • Scanner Darko

“just about everything” is not the same as “all”.

“I’ve admitted this story has its problems.”

What you haven’t done is admit that it’s not true.

“But to sit back and say everything I do is fake is just a down out right lie.”

I didn’t say that. Try again.

              “Speaks loads of your character.”

Does it look like I’m trying to be your friend? Do you imagine I care?

            • yen ain\\\'t happening

Jeffery my boy, The picture is definitely a photo shop. You certainly have a disillusion as to what is and or not reality and fiction. Might I be so brave to suggest you to take up fictional writing instead. You might get more of an audience. Oh and by the way I love to read stories about implants—get it—oh I’m sure you do. I love your imagination.

    • Factory Farms FEAR the MooCow

Todays sailing ships and cruise liners must have on board a mandatory Cow for good luck. The bow/front part of every ship must be a small patch of grass and a standing cow to part the waves of evil and alien UFOs.

      Eat More GMO

      • Mayhem

Can cows manage selfie sticks and, if so, could you ask one of your kinfolk if they would re-enact “My heart will go on” as Rose?

I’d pay to see that

        • Factory Farms FEAR the MooCow

          lol wut.

 That’s too funny..I think we should corner the market and buy stocks in the GMO MOOCOW market and sublet them out as fast food…whoops I meant a fast track through the anal area of Jeffery Pritchett.

      • Jeffery Pritchett

I put a disclaimer on the article when I first posted because a few people on Facebook said the same thing. Yet some others said it was real. I thought the Snopes people went to prison recently. lol

        • Geeper

I don’t like Snopes either, but their claim that the story originates from the joke news site the World News Daily Report seems legit. I can’t find any earlier publication of this story. And literally thirty seconds in Google shows me that the photo of “Cuban expert, Rodolfo Salvador Cruz” is actually British navy diver Lee Smale looking at a logbook recovered from a submarine in 2013.

          This is a fake story.

        • You People Are Nuts

          J.P. -
Now you know that these hicks have no clue about anything beyond their possum traps.
Actually, no disclaimer was needed if they knew why there is a question mark in your headline in the first place.
What was really pitiful is one commentator seemed shocked that you put up news that wasn’t true…lol.

          • Jeffery Pritchett

Nuts lmao exactly down on the farm they forget what a ? mark means apparently. I usually try to put up true stuff but checked BIN and saw another version of this article up with no comments under it at all about it being a hoax.. I put it up and BOOM! Coyote strikes again.

            • Geeper

“I usually try to put up true stuff”

              Give this man a Pulitzer.

          • CrowPie

You don’t need a trap to catch possum. All you need is a good dog and someone to climb the tree.

        • yen ain\\\'t happening

Did you do the typical “copy and Paste” story Jeffery boy?

    • Jawbones

Something about that picture is screaming fake. The water spray on the side of the boat looks like MS Paint Spray Can

      • Geeper

Yeah, it’s photoshopped from the Close Encounters film, it’s the ship they find in the desert:

        https://joesimiana.files.wordpress.com/2015/08/497ab8546e4319.jpg

But I don’t know, this article did get 10,000 hits. Maybe we should send in a forensics team…

      http://www.thatsfake.com/ss-cotopaxi-resurface-after-90-years-in-bermuda-triangle/

You should really try or at least attempt to be responsible in checking a tad harder on seeing if a story is legit. Type in the ships name in google and honestly look at where you repost your stories from, reputed satiric websites…. that is not news, it’s BS. People want truth, not reposts from fake story sites.

Jeffery if you want to be taken seriously, check your facts and then double check your facts and for pete’s sake stop looking at SNOPES to prove your stories or for reinforcement from the farcebook community. So pull your big boy shorts on and get some integrity…

      • Jeffery Pritchett

I don’t use Snopes ever and the sites you just posted from are just as much garbage as snopes.

Its easy to judge someone’s entire life behind a dark glass isn’t while sitting on your high horse?

        • Geeper

So what do you think to the suggestion that your first picture is photoshopped from “Close Encounters” and the second one is of British navy diver Lee Smale rather than a Cuban historian, Jeffery?

Or do your horse’s windows need cleaning?

          • Jeffery Pritchett

The article obviously has its problems what I’m more concerned with is how so many commenters here think contributors are suppose to be perfect Christ like beings who never make mistakes. Yet none of these commenters ever post one article whatsoever to show us how its done. They’d rather yammer away and judge our lives from the sidelines. I don’t have a horse I do have a Hearse however with plenty of room in the back.

            • Trin

It’s called professional journalism. You want to be taken seriously, then stop whining and take some of these comments to heart…

            • Geeper

So you’re not concerned about fixing “obvious” problems that you’re fully aware of in your own articles. Okay, good to know, I’ll bear that in mind when I see your name on here in future.

            • Jeffery Pritchett

Geeper good riddance! I’ve never seen one positive comment from you on any article in my entire lifetime here!

            • Geeper

              How very positive of you!

            • Pix

That’s because there are two types of religious/spiritual folks.

              1. The folks who are only interested in the subject for the subjects sake, it’s a personal thing.
              2. The folks who are only interested in subjecting it onto everyone else, it’s a thought and belief intolerant dictatorship thing.

It’s just a question of which group you fall into. The former group will not post articles because their beliefs are personal. The latter group are all frauds, the odiously arrogant claiming knowledge of the unknowable. Three is no such thing as knowing how it’s done. Stupid.

        • Jeffery Pritchett

Funny the first time I’ve seen you comment ever on my stories. Problems at home? Man trouble? Not making your monthly payments? So have to take it out on someone else online? Pathetic.

          • Trin

Been a reader for years and found it odd that this story is the most hits for you… and like many stories posted on BIN — *authors/contributers* do not do the homework in checking the validity before re-posting.

You got caught with your shorts down, pride hurt a bit again I am sure, not a big deal… just own it. And try to better next time.

Read down Jeffery, more people are calling your bluff… so get in there and keep attacking the readers and commenters. All we came here for was an interesting news story and this one was fake.

Only thing pathetic here… is a fake story that you are hell bent on pretending to be truth

          • Jeffery Pritchett

I’ve never seen you in my life on any of my stories and if you actually used your eyes and read the comments you’d already know I’ve said this story obviously has holes in it. I’m tired of the commenters here attacking contributors like sociopaths so giving them a taste of their own medicine. We are human beings we make mistakes. Have you ever posted a story TRIN? Let me check.. I’m betting that is a big whopping NO. ZERO. I’ve had plenty of better stories get much more visits than this. Hell bent on protecting the truth? lol I’m playing Mad Max the video game. You to could use more fiber in your diet.

          • Trin

If you are so tired of the comments attacking a fake story, then stop posting fake *news* and use this opportunity to come clean.

            REMOVE THE STORY

p.s. you actually should be very honored that I took the time out of my life to post here, to you, as you had a grand opportunity to learn more. Good Luck, Jeffery and rest assured I shall never comment on yours again.

          • Jeffery Pritchett

Good Riddance Trin! I don’t need blind Yaks who don’t read all the comments bringing negative vibes to my root chakra! I hope your personal life heals so you’ll stop taking your stresses out on poor contributors at BIN! I openly said I saw a similar article on BIN just like this one with no comments about it being fake at all. If you opened your eyes you might have saw that. But you’re to busy trying to act like Freedom Truther Miss USA.

You do know this a fake story, right? Twat.

I recall, in 1967, VP-49, Crew 5, we were to do a night training exercise with a sub in an area of the Bermuda Triangle southwest of Bermuda. We had the coordinates of the area location where the sub was to be located on the surface. We flew for 8 hours and could not even locate the area. Could have been defective inertial system. The Navigator tried to do star shot locations through roof equipment, no luck (He focused on the P-3A tail light, rather than whatever star). Navigator incompetence ??? 8 hour flight, never located sub or even the 500 square mile area, we blamed it on the Bermuda Triangle.

Jeffery Pritchett: I got a true article for you. It was back in about 2000 that it was reported that the missing planes ( Namely the TBNs ), that went missing in 1945, were DISCOVERED in the Florida Keys, in about 40 feet of water, and were STILL ( strangely enough ), in formation. The planes were reportedly STILL in Great condition, and Divers were getting ready too find a way too RETRIEVE, the planes. THIS is no joke:, It was reported on NPR news, and we later heard the same news on a mainstream media channel. After that NADA! The impression i got from the news release is that something very , either strange was found with them, or , like something from ( Close encounters of the 3rd kind ), scenario, when they found the Ship in the middle of a Mexican desert. BTW on a off note: when i was in the Navy we Did encounter strange ( lets see how good i spell this word ), Annonamilies, in the Pacific Ocean , particularly about straight west of Washington state, out about 400 miles straight west or so. The Gyro compass would start giving False readings and the Magnetic compass would spin back and forth. Folks their are strange things on our planet. Structures under our oceans , Pyramids a thousand feet down , too heck even a Mayan Pyramid found in a Georgians pasture. Thats right this farmer in Georgia USA kept hitting what he thought to be a huge rock while plowing, finally decided too uncover it one day so as too determine if dynamite would be needed or just what too do with it. Much too his surprise he found it too be the Top of a fairly large Pyramid. You never know whats beneath you do u?

      • Jeffery Pritchett

Thanks for sharing this story. Like the Chris Kitze article says about Fake Stories on BIN which apparently this one is highly suspect. His article says to look in the comments and you can find much more important information there from the commenters. I’d like to thank you for not acting like a psycho and attacking contributors for making mistakes and sharing something worthwhile. I was born in Georgia do you know what part of Georgia? LOL, another fake article by Barbara Johnson from World News Daily Report, “a former pornstar, she has rapidly reached the summit in her new profession thanks to her good looks and “social” skills”, who brought people such stories as “Prehistoric “Douche Bag” Discovered in Italy” and “Queen of England slaps Dalai Lama”.

    • jdpent01

jdp…Ship metallurgical inspection should be conducted to see if any erosion had taken place

    • Dodgeball

Being in the US Navy at one time, how could a steel ship, floating aimlessly, endure at least 90 years of saltwater (without some painting or repairs), and still be floating? A 30-40 year old Navy ship is considered outdated and is generally towed out to sea to be used for target practice or sold as scrap…yet this one is at least 90+ years old and still on top of the waves? I know that the area of the Triangle is fairly large but you would think that in 90 YEARS, at least ONE ship or boat would have run across this vessel somewhere before this (and reported it). And what about all the bad storms or hurricanes in the past 90 years? Who was there to engage the bilge pumps for all the water that must have come aboard? Me smells a ship rat!

    • Jeffery Pritchett

Here is a post especially for those who apparently don’t know what a ? mark means. Tonight’s home work lesson..

      ques·tion mark
      noun
      a punctuation mark (?) indicating a question.
used to express doubt or uncertainty about something.

    • Jeffery Pritchett

Here is a post especially for those who apparently don’t know what a ? mark means. Take note there is a ? mark in the title of this article. Tonight’s home work lesson..

      ques·tion mark

      a punctuation mark (?) indicating a question.
used to express doubt or uncertainty about something.

      • Geeper

Oh, don’t worry, we know exactly what it means. Betteridge’s law of headlines: “Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no.”

So you’re going to leave this fake story up with nothing stronger than an evasive “hmm, hmm, speculation on Facebook comments, I couldn’t possibly comment” at the top, even though you understand that the first image is blatantly photoshopped from a 1970s sci-fi film and the second image isn’t of the guy you claim it is?

Is this what you think citizen journalism ought to be?

        • Jeffery Pritchett

I thought you were leaving Geeper forever.

No matter what Mr. Freedom Truther garbage you spew this article is still better than your two crappy Obama kiss butt articles you wrote back in 2012. Judge not want not.

          • Geeper

No, I didn’t say I was “leaving forever”, I don’t know where you got that from.

Matthew 7 just keeps on giving, doesn’t it? You should reread it the next time you feel the need to wildly criticize a basic but-this-is-from-an-old-film fact-check as “freedom truther garbage”.

            • CrowPie

Yeah….Jeffery is posting links to the ‘church of mabus radio’..I don’t think he reads The Word of God.

He wuvs me wuvs me not.

Crow I’ve read the bible many times divine truth within mixed with blood rape and hypocrisy.

I just had a show on HP Lovecraft’s the Necronomicon and a also a Santeria Cuban Voodoo Doctor on. Impish Smile. http://www.churchofmabusradio.com

            • CrowPie

              That’s Ms. Crow to you.

Yes there is Divine Truth within The Word and the only Hypocrisy are your words and impish grin.

You just lost a regular reader. You see….I used to like your stories ……simply for the entertainment……that’s the only reason I come here……the entertainment.

But…..your done as far as I am concerned. I prefer folks that are nice too me…..even if they don’t believe.

I have friends here who Don’t believe,
it doesn’t get in the way of our being great friends. (nod to Geeper to the new tech info, it’ll take some getting used too. You can’t seem to manage a friend with different belief sets. Too bad.

              Too bad.

            • Geeper

It was an oblique reference to “First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

I guess you need everything spelt out to you. Or is quoting a book just more freedom truther garbage to run and hide from?

            • Jeffery Pritchett

Crowpie if that is your idea of me saying one sentence about my feelings about the bible as not being nice to you. Then you’ve made it plainly obvious you’re a sensitive puss toot anyway. Most of my readers come from my millions of listeners from being on FM radio in New Orleans anyway and from FB. Buh bye

            • CrowPie

Look….I simply stated that you had a different set of beliefs by saying you didn’t read the bible and posted links to the church of mabus.

Your statements included disparagements such as the words blood, rape and hypocrisy.

Your mood might not have been the best considering the above comments…but you have to admit that you were quite a bit more quarrelsome that I.

            • CrowPie

And the next time you have an Id break at the top or the bottom of the hour ….be sure to count your seconds carefully entering and exiting …..one never knows when the clock will lose a few seconds and you miss your top of the hour hard mark.

Your not the only one who has ever been on the radio…..FM/ AM or Tv…..so pat yourself on the back a little more….

              here today….gone tomorrow.

I’m a shock jock you have no idea how much I hold back.

The reason I decided to be the way I am within these comment threads on this post is because a lot of the commenters here attack the contributors and treat them like crap. Harass them and stalk them and slander them.

A lot of the contributors just turn their comments off or don’t comment at all.

Its giving them a taste of their own medicine. And I’ve had other contributors say thank you for standing up for us yesterday. That’s my point. And its like the fine point of a guillotine. If you don’t like the heat get out of the kitchen. In the end none of this matters anyway we are just worm food and bones for the incinerator.

And as for the bible I grew up in the South of the USA. Blood rape and hypocrisy is exactly what it is.

            • CrowPie

              “Shock jock. ”

              Congratulations.

It takes tons of ingenuity to be a “shock Jock.”

Your entitled to your opinions, as am I.

Life as a public figure is tough….especially for those who choose to go against the grain of social norms. There is very little here on The BIN that doesn’t need a great deal of defending. I can see why you all tend to ‘close ranks’ and why you get ‘many thanks’ for the ‘defensive positions’ you often take.

If you truly believe that BS you spouted above…..you should take your own advise and grow a thicker skin or get out of the kitchen.

              BTW…..impeccable spelling.

    • Anonymous

To the best of my knowledge there is no ship named the cotopaxi listed as missing in the triangle in 1925.
