Armed Police Raid Protected Indigenous Territory in Canada (Video)
There seems to be some trouble with the government the Natives in Canada regarding rights to lands and the content of said lands probably having to do with minerals. This story is heating up in Canada right now and have used several sources to tell the tale. I suggest checking out the sources as well for the full story. Indian and police clashing much like Standing Rock scenario. The selfishness of government continues to rob Natives of their rightful lands. I hope the Natives take it all back. Because quite frankly the Earth would be a lot better off then the selfish monsters running it into the ground right now. J.P.
January 8, 2019, 2:51am UTC (late afternoon on 07th local time): There are confirmed reports that RCMP have breached the checkpoint at Gidumt’en, Wet’suwet’en Access Point on Gidumt’en Territory. The RCMP are armed and moving in. Military also present. Gidumt’en cell service, wifi, and communication has been jammed and cut off by police.
January 8, 2019, at approximately 2:51am UTC: RCMP and military forcefully breached a peaceful checkpoint on unceded Wet’suwet’en territory. Indigenous people were ripped from their homes by militarized police. There were at least 12 confirmed arrests, including an elder, and Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs were blocked from their own territories. Gidumt’en Clan spokesperson Molly Wickham was arrested on her land. She, along with other arrestees, will not be released. They are being brought to Prince George to stand before a Justice of the Peace.
In Canada, armed forces raided native Wet’suwet’en territory in British Columbia Monday, with at least 14 arrests being reported. Land defenders faced off with Royal Canadian Mounted Police as the police breached two checkpoints set up to keep pipeline workers out of protected territory. Indigenous leaders are reportedly being blocked from their territory.
Wet’suwet’en land defender: “The Wet’suwet’en have won rights and title to their lands. We did not hurt anyone. The hereditary chiefs say no. You cannot go through our lands. And under your law, the authority is them.”
