Prepare the Smart Way

Guest Post  Lee Flynn

Fulfilling our basic needs of warmth, protection and food in an apocalyptic situation or after natural disaster can be challenge, but it doesn’t have to be if you prepare properly ahead of time. Spending some time and money investing in quality food and supplies will take you a long way in desperate times. The last thing you want to do is be stuck without the basic necessities in a bad situation.

Creating Warmth

In a natural disaster, you might be facing snow, wind, rain, or freezing temperatures. Investing in a subzero proof sleeping bag for each person in your family will ensure warmth no matter how cold it gets; and protect them from frostbite and hypothermia. Fleece blankets for during the day time are also good to keep in your kit, since shelters aren’t always the warmest.

Thermal under armor, ski glasses, waterproof boots, waterproof gloves, lined coats and hats should also be in your kit for each person to keep everyone dry and warm. Thin gloves and beanies allow water to seep in and chill the body down leading to hypothermia. Keeping your health in a disaster is of up-most importance, so don’t skimp on warm clothing and bedding by thinking every day material will suffice.

Protecting the Family

Looting is often common after a natural disaster, as is assault and rape, so protecting your family with a basic handgun that is safely kept with your kit, can mean the difference between safety or vulnerability for your family. The 9mm ammo which is used for the basic handgun, is over manufactured so you have a lot of different options when it comes to purchasing it. If you purchase cheap ammo though, it can potentially cause misfires that are dangerous for the shooter, so investing in the best 9mm ammo you can find will ensure for a smooth fire and your bodily safety.

Other safety items that should go in a kit include a mace, a flashlight with extra batteries, a whistle, flare guns, and wrench or pliers to turn off the utilities in the event of pipe bursting.

Satisfying Hungry Stomachs

If you purchase a large container of freeze dried natural food, you’ll feel better eating quality food versus eating food from a can that is full of preservatives. There are many options for quality food for emergency kits such as freeze dried food, military meal packets, or even space food which is not as taste friendly, but it will do the trick. Whatever kind of food you choose to put in your supply kit, you’ll want at least a three day supply for everyone in your family.

Don’t forget about water either, a water purifier, a gallon of water per person per day or bottled water will work to keep everyone hydrated.

In addition to meeting the basic necessities, you’ll want to include a comprehensive first aid kit, prescriptions that are normally taken, rope, propane fuel, infant formula (if there is a baby in the family), cell phone chargers, a local map and a hand crank radio.

Overall, try to purchase high quality items that you can get the most out of, such as high quality 9mm ammo and a hand crank radio that is also a USB charger and flashlight. The less you have to carry with you in a disaster the lighter your load will be, so prepare the smart and get smart items that will keep you alive, healthy and strong so you can weather any kind of natural disaster or apocalyptic situation that may come your way.

3 days worth of preps isn’t even close to what the average family will be needing.. I’d say 1260 days of preps will be safe according to scripture.

      1. Warmth- The sleeping bag idea is good. I also recommend having a wood stove on standby and acquiring a good chainsaw, extra chains, chain file, hand saws, splitting axe, and a tomahawk.

      2. Fuel- Powering that chainsaw takes gasoline and oil. Having a few drums of Gasoline is a BIG PLUS.. Most rural areas will also need gasoline to pump water from their wells.

      3. A generator and Solar power.. Use your generator cautiously for important things like pump water from the well in LARGE AMOUNTS at a time into 275 gallon IBC totes. Then try to keep your daily electrical needs powered by solar.

      4. Food- Sure non-GMO food is better, but if you have a family of 4 or more, you will need A LOT of FOOD to last 1260 days.. Almost 11 MILLION calories.. If your prepping for the Long-Run and do not have tens of thousands to blow on preps, you will have to get Deer Corn, Field Oats, and any other LARGE quantities of farm grain you can get.. 50 pound bags sell for under $8 at feed stores.. This grain can be used to hydrate and eat, grind and make breads, or even attract wild game to hunt. And of course you can feed it to chickens to get your eggs..

Sure it’s not the best for you, but in my estimation, believers who are not protected in the wilderness should strive to make it to refuse the mark. Your heavenly rewards are GREATLY INCREASED if you die refusing the mark than if you die beforehand.
