As early as next Sunday, NASA should begin issuing statements on the whereabouts of a large disintegrating satellite that will plummet to earth. Not only is Los Angeles a potential target, but every major city and populated area between latitudes 57 north and 57 south will be vulnerable for a short time according to NASA.
While most of the falling debris will likely disintegrate or fall into one or more of the world’s oceans, the size of the failed satellite there is such that is does pose a credible risk to vulnerable land masses and populated areas.
The UARS satellite, put into orbit in 1991 to assist in climate research will be a 6.5 ton projectile traveling at 18,000 mph. when it enters the earth’s atmosphere as early as next Sunday. There will about two hours warning for areas which NASA will be able to determine lie in the path of falling debris. The satellite is about the size of a bus, it is highly likely that at least some fragments, as many as 26 will survive the descent through earth’s atmosphere.
NASA calculates that the chance of a person being hit are about one in 3,200. The only instance of a person being hit by falling space debris was in 1997 when a woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma was hit by a piece of a Delta II rocket descending at relatively slow speed. She was unhurt.

Gee, from Sept 23-30, comet elenin’s tail remnant, gases, rocks & debris sweeps across the central Earth (kinda like that BBC graphic) denoting potential impacts locations for a satellite? Uh, yeah… they can nail down swatches of area for other satellites like skylab… but the best they can do for this one is the whole central earth?
Good thing our great and mighty leader will be in his hole in Denver at Defcon 1 alert with his finger on the “button” quite coincidently on the day Elenin is aligned between earth and the sun with its tail in our face.
But hey… NASA (Never A Straight Answer) says “It’s gone” but still tracks it at JPL. Always nice to know how reliable they can be… like all the near asteroid misses this year where they announced “It missed us!” -DUH… It’s time to bury that dinosaur because they use our tax dollars to LIE to us all. And when they DO tell the truth… would you know the difference?

Oh who cares if the earth gets blown up by comet, satellite or other means. If the earth will be destroyed no one will survive and the elite just buried themselves before we could. We go, they go . I do not care how far down under ground they go they will perish also.
Finally some good news.
Clearly no one understands the amount of heat that entering the Earth’s atmosphere creates. Unfortunately, a good example is the Columbia accident: A larger, heavier, and faster moving object that crashed over several populated and unpopulated areas without warning. How many people on the ground were hurt?
Let’s hope a piece of this satellite does not crash through your roof into your TV while you’re watching American Idol. That could be very disrupting. Better play it safe and purchase a second-hand TV.
“Vulnerable land masses”! How stupid! Why not say, “satellite falling to earth. Women and minorities to be disproportionately affected!”
