Patriots Get to Sit Back and Wait as Four AFC Teams Look to Advance This Weekend

It’s mission accomplished for the Patriots in terms of doing enough to get the number two seed in the AFC, and while the team had some issues down the stretch, getting a bye in the first week of the postseason was a key for the club to get back to the Super Bowl.

As it stands the only team that is playing this weekend that can’t face the Pats next weekend would be the Indianapolis Colts, as they are the 6th seed and if they beat the Houston Texans they would travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs.

The most likely game for the Patriots next weekend would be a showdown with the AFC South Champion Houston Texans, a team that play host Sunday to a team they know very well in the Colts.

If the Texans can take care of business at home Saturday, they will guarantee a matchup with the Patriots. Houston hosts Indianapolis in the first playoff game this weekend at 4:30pm Saturday.

The other AFC game that the Patriots will be keeping an eye on will be played on Sunday in Baltimore, as the Ravens will have a week 16 rematch against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Baltimore is a favorite in the game, and they beat the Chargers in Los Angeles in Week 16. It will be an interesting game as Los Angeles won two more regular-season games than Baltimore, going 7-1 on the road.

The only divisional team that the Pats played during the regular season are the Texans, with the Pats topping Houston at Gillette Stadium 27-20 in Week 1, extending their losing streak against New England to eight games. Deshaun Watson had arguably his worst game of the season by completing 50 percent of his passes for 176 yards.

A matchup with the Texans would be in the Pats favor, as it seems like everyone right now is fearing the Ravens, a team that not only can run the ball but also plays defense as well as any team in the league.

The Ravens actually have a playoff win over the Patriots in New England, as back in 2013 in the first round the Ravens ran past the Pats 28-13 in the 2013 AFC Championship Game. Baltimore lost in New England two postseasons later.
