Cowboys Part Ways with Offensive Coordinator Scott Linehan After Five Seasons

The Dallas Cowboys made somewhat shocking news on Friday, as the team fired offensive coordinator Scott Linehan after five seasons on the job.

If you look the latest football predictions suggest this has to come as a surprise, considering what Linehan was able to accomplish over his time with the team with stars like Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott and now wide out Amari Cooper.

Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett discussed the move, claiming it was a ‘mutual decision’ which is hard to believe based on the Cowboys coming off a season in which they won a playoff game and won the NFC East.

“This was not an easy decision because of how highly we regard Scott Linehan as a football coach and as a person. He and I had some really positive, substantive and open discussions which took place in the latter part of this week, and we ultimately agreed that it would be in the best interest of all of the parties involved if we were to make a change at this position,” Garrett said.

“This was very much a mutual decision, and there was a great deal of common ground and shared understanding between both of us during our meetings. Scott has had an incredibly positive impact on our football team.

“He has been instrumental in the development and success of a significant number of our veteran and younger players. He is an outstanding football coach, a great friend and we wish him and his family nothing but the absolute best moving forward.”

Reports say that the Cowboys have been looking at outside coordinator candidates for several days to take the spot that Linehan will leave behind, so this move obviously has been in the works.

Some say that Dallas’ offense isn’t creative enough for the linking of owner Jerry Jones, and with playmakers like Prescott and Elliott, they should be even better than what they are.

Jones got a chance to see a high-powered offense last week in the team that beat the Cowboys knocking them out of the postseason in the Los Angeles Rams, and he had to like what he saw from the likes of head coach Sean McVay, and would love to get a creative mind like that to run the Cowboys offense.

With a new voice coming in to run the show the offense should look different in 2019, but there’s always fear that the new voice won’t mesh with the big names on the teams’ offense.

Whoever the team decides on they have to make sure to get along with the threesome of Prescott, Elliott and Cooper, three players that will be the core of the Cowboys for hopefully a long time to come.

Look again for the team to try to find a young creative voice that will try to not only get the most of the threesome mentioned above, but the same with the teams offensive line.
