Teams Showing Interest in Dealing for Jaguars Safety Tashaun Gipson

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that various teams around the league have called the Jaguars to inquire about starting safety Tashaun Gipson.

The belief is he’s available because he is due more than $8M and the Jagaurs are in a cap crunch.

Gipson has played at a high level and is only 28 years old, and checking the best sportsbooks the Jags are much better with him, but his cost is something the team really has concerns over as free agency start.

The safety will have two years remaining on his contract as he enters 2019, with base salaries of $7.2 million in 2019 and $7 million in 2020.

Rapoport points out Gipson is due more than $8 million in 2019, a number that the team really can’t afford considering they have plenty of positions to fill this offseason.

Right now as it stands the Jaguars don’t have much wiggle room with spending money and are projected to have $2.6 million in available cap space, according to Over the Cap, so a potential trade to free up space makes sense.

There’s going to be plenty of interest for a young safety that can still go out and get it, and you can expect teams like the 49’ers, Chargers, Seahawks and Cowboys to be in the mix for Gipson’s services.

It remains to be seen what the Jaguars could get in return for the safety, but as it stands it’s likely most teams are not going to give up much considering the amount of money teams would have to swallow to take on for his services.

With the new league year starting on Wednesday, plenty of chatter and things can happen between now and then, and you can expect Gipson’s name to be mentioned a number of times.
