Report: Lakers Looked to Deal Star LeBron James at February Deadline

This season has been a disaster for the Los Angeles Lakers in just about every way. The team has never jelled under new superstar LeBron James, and it looks like unless there’s a miracle they are going to miss the playoffs.

If you look at the latest online betting in pa, the Lakers chances of making the playoffs are slim and none, and it appears that slim is quickly on its way out the door.

With that, a story has come from veteran NBA insider Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report saying that owner Jeanie Buss contemplated trading James ahead of the February deadline.

Bucher’s story says that Buss was furious with James’ agent, Rich Paul, for leaking information about the Lakers’ trade package in a possible deal for the team to land New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis, a deal that never happened.

“The subject of moving James, however, was contemplated by the Lakers, a team source said, weeks before (Jeff) Van Gundy aired it,” Bucher reported. “When rumors engulfed the team at the February trade deadline that it was willing to trade anyone other than James to acquire All-Star forward Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, James’ agent, Rich Paul, was widely accused of spreading those rumors because Davis is also one of his clients.

“Paul denied to B/R that he leaked the Lakers’ interest in Davis, but Buss suspected otherwise and was furious. The idea of terminating the franchise’s relationship with Paul by moving James at least crossed Buss’ mind, the team source said, and Paul was made aware of that. That prompted Paul to reach out to Buss to clear the air, and whatever ill will existed supposedly dissipated.”

In an interesting side note, ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy stated last week on a broadcast that the Lakers should consider trading James.

It will be interesting to see what changes the Lakers make in year two of the James era in Los Angeles, as it goes without saying that year one has left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

Magic Johnson and the team will have tons of pressure on them next season, to the point where if there’s another letdown, heads could roll out in Hollywood.
