Rookies Make a Positive Impact in Panthers First Preseason Camp for Incoming Players

It is easy to get excited about one rookie mini camp, but in the case of the Carolina Panthers, the team did take some big steps in the right direction to try to get back to the postseason and be a force again in the NFC South and the Conference as a whole.

If you look at sites like bet-wager.com you will see the Panthers still have a ton to prove if they are going to get back to the Super Bowl of a few seasons ago.

Since that forgettable Sunday afternoon and evening in San Francisco, the team has not been able to reach the same level, and it seems like there needs to be a new attitude that hopefully head coach Ron Rivera and the team can put in motion as they look to get back to double digit wins.

When it comes to the first mini camp with new players, it’s all about players setting tempo, getting on the same page and making sure that this unit starts off on the right foot.

A lot of that falls directly on Rivera, who might be under a slightly hotter seat after how the team has taken steps the other way the last few seasons since that Super Bowl game against the Broncos.

The coach did like what he saw during the first rookie camp, and felt like the new players on the team were there with a renewed vigor and were ready to make an impact.

“Retention was really good,” said Rivera, after the weekend’s final session. “I really liked what we did on both sides of the ball.”

Rivera stated that the staff will take a long look at what the new players kept in their brains over the newest session, and once the veterans come in, it will then be fun to see how the rookies play alongside the veterans and if there can be a good mix.

Two players that stood out in the first camp was backup quarterbacks Will Grier and Kyle Allen.

Reports from the camp stated that both showed promise, which included Grier’s strongest throw of the day on Saturday, when he hit a deep ball to wide receiver Andre Levrone.

Yes the ball fell incomplete, but it was a great effort none the less. Allen showed consistency both days and seemed to have good chemistry with some of the younger pass catchers.

With more camps upcoming, it will be fun to see if the attitude stays the same, as well as if these players continue in the direction to build a winning unit for the 2019 season.
