Three Questions About the Giants as Training Camp Gets Closer

Following a season in which the Giants went 5-11 and had all kinds of growing pains in the first year with coach Pat Shurmur running the show, there’s a level of excitement about the team as 2019 approaches.

Now that the calendar has turned to July, the start of training camp is closing in and things are ramping up for the franchise to get ready for 2019.

Today we take a quick look at three questions about this team as they get set to embark on what they hope will be a better season in the second year of the Shurmur era.

1. The QB Spot

There’s no doubt that the future belongs to first-round draft choice Daniel Jones, but the bigger question regarding the rookie QB is when does that future begin?

Pat Shurmur has declared that Eli Manning is the man when it comes to him being the starter at QB from day one, but if Jones is going to be the future, you can bet that his time is not far behind.

Manning will have a microscope on each and every throw on him as camp moves on as well as preseason, and each mistake will get the fans calling even more for the rookie to take over.

2. Barkley Year Two

Last season the most dynamic player for the Giants was running back Saquon Barkely, who was the NFL Rookie of the Year rushing for 1307 yards and 11 scores.

He also caught another 91 passes with four more scores, and every time the team needed a big play, Barkley was the guy.

Can the Giants get an even BIGGER season from the running back, or will they look to spread the ball more in season two to other offensive stars?

For the long term benefit of Barkley, they may want to look at other players that can help out in that role.

3. Install a Winning Attitude

The Giants last season won just one of their first eight games, and the season was basically lost by the time the team was two months into the season.

This year with a club that has lost a huge star in Odell Beckham Jr. to a trade to Cleveland, it will be up to Shurmur and the coaching staff to install an attitude to make this team believe they can win and match up with the other three teams in the NFC East.

Outplayed both physically and mentally, the team has to be smarter as well as play with a better attitude when it comes to making mistakes.

Camp will go a long way in doing that.
