Rocking The Rockies!

This weekend the Colorado Rockies come to our side of the country and last night the series began.

It is my guess that the Rockies are in pretty bad spirits right now, coming off a home stand where they lost five of the seven games. Getting not only swept but obliterated by the San Francisco Giants in a four-game series. Yikes! Good thing the Yanks gave them another loss to think about last night.

The match up was Kyle Freeland against J.A. Happ.

The Rockies needed Freeland to be on, as he’s gone 2-6 this season with a 7.39 ERA. But last night the Yankees scored big and won. Purple Row writes:

“The Colorado Rockies struck out 17 times en route to dropping their fifth straight game, losing 8-2 to the New York Yankees on Friday.

Every member of the Rockies lineup struck out at least once in the game, with Charlie Blackmon, Ryan McMahon, and Mark Reynolds with three Ks a piece. The loss dropped the Rockies to 2-11 in July and 6-17 since they peaked at 40-34 in mid-June. It also dropped them into a tie for last place in the NL West. Woof. “

With the Yanks ranked 2nd in the league in scoring, it was evident the Rockies were overpowered. I’m looking for more today!

Former Colorado player DJ LeMahieu currently leads the Yankees with 121 hits and 67 RBIs. If his old team was smart, they would try and pitch around him this weekend, otherwise, they are going to feel really sorry for letting him go.

However, it is no surprise to either team how incredible LeMahieu has been performing.

“He’s such a good ballplayer it’s hard to describe,” Gary Sanchez said through his translator recently. “Any words I can say about him are going to fall short. I mean, the guy gets two, three hits every day. If he’s having a tough day he has two hits. He can do it all. Is there a word for better than best? He’s that good.”

Charlie Blackmon has said he’s been getting more questions about DJ than about the Rockies and wasn’t mad about it at all.

“DJ’s the guy and everybody’s figured out how awesome he is and how good he is at baseball and now they want to know where he came from,” said Blackmon, a Rockie the last nine seasons. “Me and a few other guys know that he’s been a really good player for a long time. I think it’s great that the baseball world is now getting to see the guy that we’ve seen the last [seven] years.”

Even Nolan Arenado was singing DJ’s praises.

“I’m excited he’s getting more attention just for a guy who doesn’t hit a lot of homers,” Arenado said. “He’s like the old school player that uses the whole field, hits line drives, plays the game the right way. Gold Glove defense. So that part, I think it’s kind of cool to appreciate that again. Back in the day, that was the way to be, and now it’s coming back.”

Nice win last night boys! Let’s continue our winning streak and further Colorado’s losing streak this weekend with an amazing series!
