Product Review: The Survival Key – Cool Survival Software

I get a lot of emails from people asking me to showcase their products or websites.  The better ones I put in the Misc updates you see from time to time.

When I saw the Survival Key I was intrigued enough to have them send me a copy of the software.  After I used it for awhile I had to talk to the owner, so I called Mike and we talked for awhile about his product.

Simply put, this is one of the most comprehensive pieces of software I’ve ever seen dealing with prepping.  When I opened it up I was surprised at the amount of topics available and I decided to go right to what I enjoy, which is wilderness survival type stuff.  Pretty soon I had my pen out and was taking notes!

Think of this as a comprehensive online library, but downloadable, that’s always being added to.  If you want to print it all out go for it!  Go down to Staples and get a truckload of paper and start printing.

The Survival Key has nineteen or twenty high level subjects like Disaster Planning, Water, Food Prep and Storage, Shelter and Evacuation, Medical and First Aid, etc etc.

I clicked on the Wilderness Survival topic and was given some subtopics.  Absolute Essentials, Survival, and Library and Resources.  At this level there is a small check box under each subtopic that you can check and you can download every topic in that subtopic to your computer.  You can keep drilling down until you get individual topics or files.  Or you can go to the main level and check everything and download the whole shooting match.  Be warned – it’s freakin’ huge!  I’m going to download mine to my external USB hard drive so that I can take it with me everywhere I go.

Now under Survival Shelters there are five different subtopics that show youhow to build different types of shelters all the way from thatch shelters right down to using a cave.  It will tell you if it’s a PDF, video, or web page and then gives you the opportunity to download that single file so you can have it saved locally.

That way if the grid goes down and you have a way to charge your laptop you can still have access to all this information.  What’s not to love?

In addition to all this there’s an assessment tool you can fill out that will tell you where you’re strong or where you need to do some work.  As a matter of fact, if you go to his web site and sign up you’ll get the assessment tool for free.  How’s that for a sweet deal?

There’s way too much information in this product to even begin to touch on with a short post like this.  Honestly, you have to see it first hand to understand what it truly is.

Who is this for?  Everybody, in my opinion.  I’ve been going over the product and found myself watching how to make a knife by cutting it from a blank piece of steel.  What?  You want to forge your own knife?  No problem.  See part two of the video.  It’s all there folks.  For the new prepper who just figured out things might be going to Hell in a handbasket to the old time prepper that’s been doing this for years, there’s something here for you.

Now, could you spend a bunch of time and put together your own online library?  Absolutely, but if someone else has already done it – and done it way better and more comprehensive than I ever could – why bother recreating the wheel?
