Police In Shootout With Boston Bombing Suspects! Dead Officer, Ongoing Gunfight & Explosions In Boston

An MIT officer has been shot and killed after two middle eastern men hijacked a car a gunfight ensued and explosives went off.

The FBI has once again refuted initial reports from the Boston PD, are are now named two new suspects. According to the AP, the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect has been identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, from Cambridge, Mass.

We are now being told the two suspects are brothers of Russian decent from Chechnya, which flies directly in the face of initial reports of police pursuing two men of middle-eastern decent whose descriptions and names were announced directly over Boston PD police scanners during the pursuit.

The two suspects initially named on Boston Police scanners and confirmed by local news outlets, Mike Mulugeta and Sunil Tripathi are being sought for their role in the Boston Bombings.

Police apprehended Mike moments ago after he suffered gunshot injuries and now are said to have Sunil cornered in a warehouse as they await swat assets.

Police, local and state, along with the national guard are on the scene of an ongoing shooting with two suspects now confirmed to be those being sought for Monday’s bombings at the Boston marathon.

The men apparently hijacked a car earlier and when they released the man he reported the suspects both Middle-Eastern, one of lighter skin and one of darker skin, were armed.

The suspects are said to match the description of the two men being sought for the Boston Bombings by the FBI.

Update 1: Managing Editor of the Boston Globe confirms one of the men arrested in the shootout is a Boston marathon bombing suspect.

Update 2: Boston Globe now reporting the white hat man is the one still on the loose and is believed to be armed and carrying explosives. However, the FBI will not confirm or deny the early officials statement.

Update 3: Boston PD announced on the scanner the 2nd suspect is in fact the man in the white hat from the Boston Bombings.

Update 4: News 7 out of Boston also confirms the 2 men involved are the FBI suspects. The first name of the man still missing is Sunil.

Update 5: After a foot pursuit police have cornered the second suspect, Sunil Tripath and now are awaiting SWAT assets.

Update 6: This is all over the news now. Suspect 1 has reportedly died after being taken into police custody altough he looked rather healthy in the CNN clip of him walking half-naked to the police cruiser and being placed in the back. The media claims police have no idea where suspect #2 is but police reported earlier they had him cornered in a warehouse and will be holding out until the morning to perform SWAT actions during daylight when it is safer.

Here’s a photo of the second suspect. He is a Brown University Student who went missing March 16th and has been all over the media since his disappearance. From the now deleted facebook page set up to find him, it appears his family is from India. Within minutes of his name being put up media outlets had all kinds of stories about who he is along with numerous recent photos. It was reported on a now deleted WikiPedia article on him reddit first fingered him as a suspect.  A former high school mate also pointed out the similiarties on twitter within hours of the FBI photos being released and has been contacted by CNN.

WATERTOWN — One suspect in Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings has been captured, according to an official with knowledge of the investigation. Another remains on the loose in Watertown after a firefight with police. Authorities have established a 20-block perimeter as they search for him.

A scene of chaos descended on Cambridge and Watertown late Thursday night and early Friday morning, as police confirmed an MIT police officer was shot and killed, and an apparent carjacking led police on a wild chase into Watertown.

Witnesses in Watertown said they heard explosions. Police officers were screaming about improvised explosive devices.

Authorities would not comment on whether the events were connected to Monday’s Boston Marathon bombings. At least one of the suspects in Watertown appeared to be a man in his 20s.

FBI agents were on the scene in Watertown.

“We are aware of the situation, we are being involved, and we are monitoring,” said an FBI representative who requested anonymity because of not being authorized to speak publicly. The FBI source said early Friday it is “too early to speculate” on a relation to the Marathon bombing.

Dozens of police officers descended on Watertown Square after midnight.

“This is still extremely dangerous,” an FBI agent said. The Cambridge bomb squad arrived in Watertown shortly after 1:30 a.m.

A man in handcuffs was being questioned by the FBI in the back of an ambulance.

At Arsenal Court and Arsenal Street in Watertown, an officer bellowed: “Ya gotta get outta here. There’s an active shooter here with an active explosive. Go!”

Peter Jennings, 33, said he was sleeping just before 1 a.m. in his home on Prentiss Street in Watertown when he was awakened by a huge boom.

“It sounded like a stick of dynamite went off,” he said. “I looked out the window, and it was like nothing I’ve ever seen – blue light after blue light after blue light.”

He said more than three dozen emergency vehicles with sirens blaring were heading down Rt. 16 West. He went to the end of his street, where some neighbors were gathering. The air, he said, smelled like “at the end of a fireworks show, like a wick smell.”
