Your Guide to Fall Foliage Around the U.S. – Part 1

Many tree leaves have started changing from green to orange, yellow and red. This beautiful fall foliage occurs in many cities from the Pacific Northwest to New England. Aspen, Colorado

It’s not surprising that a town that’s been named after a tree has some pretty spectacular leave changes. Fall foliage generally begins starting in the middle of September and goes through the end of the month. You can possibly still see some gold toned leaves on the trees during the first week of October, but for the most part, many of the leaves will have already fallen off of the trees.

The Catskills, New York

The Catskills is located in the southeastern part of New York. During the fall months the leaves on the trees turn red, orange and yellow. This makes the hillside come to life. During this time visitors can attend fall festivals, craft fairs and farmers’ markets. The best time to visit the Catskills to see the fall foliage is from the end of September through the end of October.

The Berkshires, Massachusetts

This city is full of forests and has plenty of fall foliage. The area consists of mountains and winding roads. It’s the place where many New Yorkers escape the busy city life to come out and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Fall foliage is at its peak from late September through the middle of October.

Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

The 80 mile Gorge really comes to life from about the middle of September through the middle of October when the trees are filled with bronze and golden hues. The area is absolutely beautiful with maples, cottonwoods and firs. While at the gorge visitors can also go rafting or canoeing down the river or hiking on one of the various trails.

Green Mountain Byway, Vermont

The Green Mountain Byway consists of 11 miles that are lined with beech, birch and maple trees. This drive through Vermont offers travelers quite a show of colors from the middle of September through the first week of October.

Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee and North Carolina

The Great Smoky Mountains have over 100 different species of trees that include hickories and maples. During the fall the leaves change to purple, deep read, gold and orange. Starting in October through the early part of November, there are quite a few opportunities to hike through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and see the stunning trees.
