Two Connected Shrinks Were Paid $81 Million by Bush Administration for Devising Torture Program and Making Government More Vicious

MailOnline can reveal that the people who worked for the company behind the CIA’s ‘enhanced interrogation’ techniques are happily retired or have reinvented themselves in respectable jobs.

One man who sanctioned waterboarding now spends his days in the Florida sunshine kayaking, climbing and jogging and living in a $800,000 house with a pool.

Two of those who were listed on public records as linked to the company are now working in a firm which specializes in dealing with workplace violence.

Others became consultants, one become a Mormon priest until his past caught up with him and another is using what he learned to train soldiers how to ‘survive hostile and isolating situations’.

The same men who reaped the rewards of the program that critics say amounts to war crimes now brag that their training programs for dealing with hostile situations are being used by six in 10 Fortune 500 companies.

All of them worked for Mitchell, Jessen and Associates which was awarded the $81 million contract by the CIA to run its enhanced interrogation’ program between 2004 and 2009.

The report by the Senate Intelligence Committee this week outlined the appalling abuses which resulted.

One man was kept awake for more than a week, another froze to death in his cell, others were strung up by their arms for hours.

Other detainees were stripped of their clothes and beaten in what has proved on the darkest days in CIA history that Senator John McCain said ‘stained our national honor’.

NBC reported that Mitchell and Jessen even went so far as to suggest staging a ‘mock burial’ to break down detainees, but it was refused by their bosses.

The Senate committee concluded that no terrorist plots were foiled from the information gleaned, despite the CIA claiming otherwise.

But perhaps even more extraordinary than that is how exactly the agency was persuaded to essentially hand over control of the program to two men with no formal training in interrogation.
