Severe Storm Knocks Over 30 Train Cars In Heavy Winds

Reports are being made that over 30 cars from a train derailed west of Galva when estimated 80 mph winds ripped through Kansas in a severe storm that was also dropping golf-ball size hail.

Two people were aboard the train, but no one was injured, according to initial reports.

Emergency units and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers were on the scene. More information was not immediately available.

About 8 p.m., over an hour after the storm, Westar Energy reported McPherson County had 640 customers were without power, including much of Galva. Twelve power poles need to be replaced since the storm destroyed them.

A section of a roof was ripped off a home in Canton near U.S. 56. A storage unit in the town of Galva was damaged.

Wind gusts reached up to 80 mph near Moundridge, according to the National Weather Service. There was roof damage to a barn located near 17th and Apache Road west of Moundridge.

The storm also hit the area with golf-ball sized hail. In western Kansas.

Thunderstorms also toppled a building and knocked over a semi about 5:45 p.m. in Meade County.

The Airport in San Angelo, Texas has also reported 82-mph wind gust during a severe storm. 

Historic tornadoes ripped through central and southern parts of the nation last month. Climatologists and meterologists have warned that was only the beginning of this season’s violent storms and that the worse was yet to come in terms of both death and home destruction.

The increasing destructive storms concept is difficult to many people accept, and thus adequately prepare. This is due to many people not understanding the dynamics of global warming nor weather manipulation, according to scientists.
