Halo 3: 2009 Most Popular Game, COD MW, then Modern Warfare 2
Microsoft has revealed the details of the most popular titles available from and to play through the Xbox 360’s online community, the Xbox LIVE service. While many may have expected the late burst of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s online popularity to have taken the online gaming crown, the honour remains that of 2007’s Halo 3.
Deciding the victor in terms of unique users that have logged-on to play online, Halo 3 remains the most popular Xbox LIVE title of the 2009 calendar year. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 take second and third place respectively, while Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2 manages to round-out the top five. Resident Evil 5, however, has been split into two entries – that of the North American and European release, and that of the Japanese title under it’s eastern name, BioHazard 5.
Electronic Arts’ Battlefield 1943 takes pride-of-place as the most downloaded Xbox LIVE Arcade title, with Castle Crashers and Trails HD also high in the running. Epic Games’ Shadow Complex manages to scrape into the top five, just behind Electronic Art’s Hasbro Family Game Night Xbox LIVE Arcade destination, with the original release of UNO being a surprisingly enduring title at number eight.
