Get Out of Afghanistan Now!

Okay, I am going to be the first constitutional conservative to join in with the far left who are calling for Obama to get our troops out of Afghanistan. Enough is enough. I came to this conclusion for the following reasons:

• Wrong Strategy. The United States has a losing strategy. Counterinsurgency does not work. We need to go in with a massive shock-and-awe “win strategy,” not a war of attrition strategy that we are currently implementing. The entire World War I lasted for four years and four months, and the United States was involved in only two years of that war. The entire World War II lasted for six years, and the United States was involved in four of those six years. Now, we have been fighting the war in Afghanistan for over nine years with absolutely no end in sight. It is another Vietnam! The Vietnam War lasted for 16 years, and the United States was involved in it for 10 of those years.
• Unnecessary Deaths. We are needlessly getting our warfighters killed for no good reason at all.  Why? Because we desire to implement democracy in that forlorn land? What a waste of human resources—not to mention all other resources.
• Waste of Money. The war is costing the United States billions and billions of dollars, and what do we have to show for it? Nothing! Except the deficits and national debt are rising rapidly because of the senseless war.
• No Leadership. The commander-in-chief (CINC) is not running the war. In fact, he is hands off, and the war is floundering. He provides absolutely no leadership. He is a laissez faire leader. The war is a much lower priority for him falling way behind playing basketball, golfing, vacationing, campaigning, playing strong-arm politics, orating, and doing everything but paying attention to the endless war.
• Corrupt Government. The Afghan government is filled with corrupt leaders from President Hamid Karzai on down throughout the organization. They promote the illegal drug business and turn the other way pretending it is not happening. They are communicating with the enemy—the Taliban. They cannot be trusted. In early April of this year, Karzai said that he wanted to quit the political process and join with the Taliban. How much trust can we put in the Karzai government? Zilch! Furthermore, they are robbing the kitty blind.
• Lack of International Support. This war is a black eye for both President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Along with the CableGate and WikiLeaks fiasco, this losing war puts Hillary in such bad light that today she announced that being secretary of state is the last government position she will hold and will not run for president. She definitely will not and cannot run for president with such a bad international relations track record that she has developed with Obama over the past two years. I see her bailing out in about a year so she will not need to campaign for Obama’s losing run for re-election.
• Let the Killing Fields Start. If the United States bails out of Afghanistan come next July 2011 as we did in Vietnam, there will be killing fields. Millions of Afghanis will be slaughtered and tortured including Karzai and his corrupt henchmen. This is a no-win war.

Therefore, we should get out of there now! Why do we waste our time, energy, warfighters’ lives, economic resources, and reputation fighting this losing, no-win war? There are no good reasons anymore for continuing this drain on our national resources. Now is the time to get out of there. Unless we change our strategy to win the war unequivocally over the next six months, we should forget about it. It is pure insanity. Insanity is defined as doing the same unsuccessful strategy year after year for nine years and expecting a winning result. It will never happen. Get out of Afghanistan and Iraq NOW!
