Turkish Troops Head To Gaza

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Mavi Marmara 2010

As U.S. congress sends $225m to Israel, North Korea announced it is prepared to send arms to Gaza and , Turkish Troops are heading there where the death toll passed 1100 in heavy attacks yesterday.

The Turkish military has committed to board “Freedom Flotilla II” to take humanitarian aid to the Palestinian coastal enclave, according to an unconfirmed media reports the Jerusalum Post says Tuesday.

The flotilla, “Freedom Flotilla II,” will set sail as soon as Turkish authorities grant necessary permits, according to Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) chairman Bulent Yildrim.

Turkish Navy vessels will accompany the flotilla, “to protect us from any potential attack,” he said.

IHH is the same organization that attempted to take aid to Gaza in 2010 on the Mavi Marmara flotilla.  It sought to break Israel’s blockade of the Gaza Strip that prevent Palestinians’ basic survival needs. In a black operation, Israel Navy commandos boarded the Mavi Marmara ship in international waters, attacked and killed nine of the human rights workers.

It was reported that a “Teutonic Zionist/Nazi driven military black operation” had been conducted on Free Gaza Movement’s flotilla of boats, an operation involving murder, kidnap and torture on international waters, war crimes, according to civilians’ consistent reports.

The aid flotilla survivors, including a former ambassador, a Nobel laureate and several well-known human rights advocates, consistently reported that Israeli commandos came heavily armed with explosives and automatic weapons, opened fire from the air before landing on the Mavi Marmara, and tortured captives on other boats.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in the Turkish city of Istanbul to denounce Israel over the attack on the human rights workers bound for Gaza with aid.

In 2011, another attempt was made to send aid to Gaza, that time aboard the Audacity of Hope Flotilla. The Greek government first banned those aid vessels from leaving its country’s ports, another win for U.S. backed Israel.

For two weeks, two boats of the international flotilla to Gaza were reportedly sabotaged while docked at Greek ports. No one claimed responsibility for the damage done to the boats. Potential danger to the U.S. boat was obvious to the captain, the crew and the passengers. There was a clear possibility that the U.S. boat, the Audacity of Hope, in the flotilla would also be sabotaged. It was carrying US Army veteran Ray McGovern among others risking their lives to get aid to Gaza.

Departure of the U.S. Boat to Gaza, The Audacity of Hope, was first delayed due to a a complaint filed by Israel Law Center that was proven frivolous. Greek authorities then inspected the boat but kept the report secret until the boat set sail five days later. The results of that inspection has not been shared with the captain and his crew.

Six armed men empounded the boat and charged the captain with violations. Rights advocates, including children rallied for the Audacity of Hope’s success after armed forces captured it and its American captain John Klusmire.

Jerusalem-based FF2 spokesman Akram Bader had then said: “It is very obvious to us that Israel has outsourced the occupation of Gaza to the Greek authorities, who have bowed to political and economic pressure to prevent the flotilla from leaving.”

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton refused to defend the Americans in the flotilla mission, and instead, continued backing Israeli control of Gaza.

The international Freedom Flotilla Coalition has released the following statement:

The international Freedom Flotilla Coalition (with participation from England, France, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, USA, Canada and Australia) condemns the ongoing Israeli military assault on Palestinian civilians in Gaza, denounces the failure of the international community to stop the assault, and renews its opposition to the Israeli economic blockade on Palestinians in Gaza as well as the collaboration of other governments.

We note that the demand to lift the blockade is a central feature of talks on ending the violence, and urge governments who reject the blockade to use their influence now to ensure that an agreement that ends the violence, also ends the destructive blockade.

We hereby announce that we are planning another flotilla in the near future, to challenge the blockade of Gaza , with participants from around the world. We announce our intention to sail back from Gaza carrying Palestinian exports, continuing the work of Gaza’s Ark.

We are a peaceful civil society initiative, acting out of solidarity with the Palestinian people, independently from any government. Contrary to recent media reports, we have not asked for military escort, have no intention to, and will not sail with a military escort.

Diplomatic officials said Jerusalem was following the reports carefully, stressing that it was unclear whether the flotilla would ultimately set sail. So far there has only been a declaration of intent, with no firm date set, one official said.

“If the sail goes ahead and is accompanied by military vessels, it could spell a potential clash between the Israeli and Turkish navies,” Israel Hayom reports.
