Sperm whale = Physeter ancestors in the LRT to scale

Physeter, the sperm whale,
has an unusual skull that serves to cradle the large, bulbous spermaceti organ and its supportive tissues. How that evolved is shown here (Fig 1) based on results recovered in the LRT.
Watch those molars reverse their complexity to become simple cones again

Physeter macrocephalus
(sperm whale; extant; Linneaus 1758; 4m skull length, 16m total length) is the largest member of the Odontoceti, or toothed whale and the largest tenrec. All teeth are missing from the premaxilla and maxilla. The dished-out rostrum and forehead house a large oil-filled organ used in echolocation. Odontoceti retain five fingers inside their pectoral flippers.
Killer whales and other dolphins arise from taxa like Simocetus (Fig 1).
