This unprecedented move shows the true power of the anti-GMO, anti-Monsanto movement, and how elected officials are now being forced to side with the concerned population over the money-spewing Monsanto. After all, it was Monsanto who purchased its way into the initial Senate spending bill legislation via a rider dubbed the ‘Monsanto Protection Act’ through Senator Roy Blunt.
Officially labeled the Farmer Assurance Provision under Sec. 735 of the Senate Continuing Resolution spending bill, Senator Blunt was conveniently given over $64,000 by Monsanto before he handed the biotech corporation the ability to write its own legislation for the Monsanto Protection Act.
This is fantastic, however, I feel like its very temporary and will be an ongoing battle so to all those GMO activists out there don’t give up, don’t let them breathe. Continue your activism, your resistance peacefully and determined. This is great news and should encourage you to continue the fight. Monsanto deserve to be driven right into the ground with legal lawsuits and such until they are out of busness. Then their executives should be tried and jailed for crimes against humanity. What they do and grow has killed and maimed thousands all over the world, an example being holding them responsible for the suicides of numerous farmers in India.

This is fantastic news for those of us who showed up at the Global March on Monsanto last May 25th, all those who wrote letters, signed petitions and lobbied their elected leaders to sponsor bills for state legislation. WE CAN CHANGE OUR WORLD FOR THE BETTER. But it will take ALL of us to do our civic duty. Monsanto is pure evil. They must be stopped.

Quite a few years ago, I remember seeing a TV interview with Senator Ernest Hollings, shortly after he’d retired. In that interview, he stated legislation is actually written by lobbyists, K Street lawyers, who own the politicians: the corporation or other special interest donates to the politician’s campaign, then the quid quo pro is they write their own legislation the politician submits on the floor of Congress. I couldn’t find a transcript of that interview online, but did find this more recent YouTube interview that touches on some of this:
At the time of that interview, I found it shocking there was no public outrage afterward, as I know I’d never before heard that corporations who gave congressmen money were actually writing their own legislation, that the politicians weren’t even writing the laws! But not a peep out of people, yet what Mr. Hollings revealed in that interview quite shocking at the time.

Really excellent news but yes, we do have to keep up the pressure and not let up for a moment! Don’t forget next Rise Up Against Monsanto day October 12th.
Another aspect is to press for America to acknowledge the harm done by Agent Orange in Vietnam and then get Monsanto to pay real and meaningful compensation to all the victims and their families.
That might just affect their balance sheet!
Now just why is a pesticide and poison company have anything to do with food and seed production???
