GMN Reports

While Idaho residents have made National Headlines with their efforts to successfully nullify the NDAA on a local level, it now appears much to the dismay of 13 democrats and 6 republicans, the Idaho House just voted overwhelming to allow those with a permit to conceal carry on campuses state-wide.

This was the second attempt in Idaho at passing a bill that allows concealed weapons on campus. The bill was previously rejected in 2011 as it did not include the enhanced concealed weapons permit, which was later created last year in Idaho.

The permit requires an individual to be 21 years of age or older to qualify for a firearm, and they must also complete a training class with an instructor who is NRA-certified. The current bill was passed on Feb. 18 by the Idaho Senate.

According to the new bill, firearms will be prohibited from resident halls or dormitories, along with stadiums and any facility that houses more than 1,000 people. However, it is uncertain how sorority and fraternity houses will be affected by the bill as they are not owned by universities, despite being on campus.

Idaho joins Oregon, Kansas, Colorado, Wisconsin, Utah, and Mississippi, among other states, which have allowed concealed guns on campuses. On the flip side, there are only 21 states which has a ban on firearms on campus.

GMN supports Idaho in their efforts to perserve the Second Amendment.

The Idaho Reporter

A bill to allow concealed weapons permit holders to carry guns on college campuses cleared its final legislative hurdle Thursday and now heads to Gov. Butch Otter’s desk. Otter has not taken a formal position on the legislation.

The much-debated measure, Senate Bill 1254, passed the Idaho House on a 50-19 vote, clearing the way for the governor to have the final say on the bill. All 13 House Democrats rejected the bill, joined by six Republicans.
