Yellowstone Volcano Link: Northwest Nevada Earthquakes Today
The current Nevada earthquake swarm is happening right where the Yellowstone Super Volcano’s Caldera was over 20 million years ago. What is happening?
An earthquake swarm in Northwest Nevada has prompted concerns as to what is causing it. The Yellowstone Super Volcano is far from the site, but 20 million years ago this hotspot was in Northwest Nevada, right at the epicenter of the recent earthquakes.
Over 40 earthquakes in Nevada has been recorded so far. As noted in the image, past calderas of the current Yellowstone Caldera went into Idaho and then Nevada. At current, the swarm is where the Caldera was 20 million years ago. Scientists have no answers yet on why those unusual quakes are there, some of them shallow.
