"Shutdown Deliberately Orchestrated by White House"
WASHINGTON — “The shutdown was deliberately orchestrated by the White House,” according to the former foreign editor of Newsweek and editor-in-chief of the New York Times Magazine.
Why would the White House intentionally cause such pain and havoc across the country?

It is a ploy to win votes, concluded author Ed Klein.
He told the New York Post that President Obama’s closest adviser, Valerie Jarrett, developed a strategy to force a showdown with Republicans over Obamcare.
Jarrett recommended shutting down government because, Klein said, she believed voters would pin the blame on Republicans.
And that would give Democrats the opportunity to win control of the House of Representatives in the 2014 midterm elections.
Klein wrote a critical biography about Obama last year called “The Amateur.” He said he interviewed more than a half dozen White House and former presidential advisers about the shutdown plan.

He called Jarret the “architect” of the strategy of refusing to negotiate with Republicans over Obamacare.
“She convinced the president that a government shutdown and default offered a great opportunity to demonize the Republicans and help the Democrats win back a majority in the House of Representatives in 2014,” he explained.
“Valerie also came with the idea of using the words ‘hostage,’ and ‘ransom’ and ‘terrorists’ against the Republicans,” Klein maintained.
He said Jarrett’s advice to Obama was, “[D]o not cooperate one iota on Obamacare. Don’t give an inch. Let the Republicans stew in their own juice.”
Klein added, “Republicans walked into a trap set up by Valerie Jarrett and President Obama.”

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, believes there was evidence in plain view that the administration planned the shutdown in advance.

The Republicans have been planning the shutdown since Obama’s reelection. They’ve made no secret of it. When it happened, THEY were giddy and proud of it! I’ve seen the videos!
Stopping Obamacare has been the Republicans’ top priority from day 1; They’ve said it themselves! One of them filibustered for 21 hours against it!
Democrats HAVE compromised repeatedly: Single payer was taken off the table. Then the public option was taken off the table. Us progressives were (and still are) furious about this. The compromising was taken over the top by Democrats agreeing to the sequester, which gave the Republicans the spending cuts they wanted.
Saying the Democrats wouldn’t compromise and were behind the shutdown is revisionist history. It’s unbelievable to anyone who reads the news and watches TV.

The Republicans themselves have stated their intentions to shut down the government. I believe the numerous videos I’ve seen of Republicans stating just that. The Democrats’ numerous compromises are a matter of public record, but maybe they weren’t reported on Fox “News”.

Actually I think a single-payer system would be far superior, without a for-profit corporation skimming their profits off the top. I got very sick once in Germany and was treated by their Socialist medical system. It was fast (very fast!), efficient (appropriate tests done immediately), and effective. I was out in an hour for what would have taken all night in an American hospital.

Did anyone wonder how the US Government got all those signs printed and distributed far and wide, including to all the national parks and cemeteries in the US and overseas only eight to ten hours after the government shut down? Take a look at this from someone who wanted to remain anonymous.
I have worked in the government on and off for 40 years. During that time I became quite familiar with requisitions, bidding, awarding contracts etc.
It is a time consuming process with bean-counters and pencil-necked bureaucrats every step of the way. The simplest request takes months not days or hours.
In less than 8 hours of the shutdown, miraculously, professionally printed 3 X 4 foot signs appeared all over the country in the tens of thousands saying-”this [park, facility, etc. with custom logos] closed due to government shutdown. There has not been a government shutdown in 17 years.
These signs were designed, specifications were determined, signs were then requisitioned, bids were posted and vetted, government contracts were awarded. The materials were then ordered and the signs manufactured, then distributed by U.S. Mails or freight companies.
This shutdown was orchestrated and planned well in advance at least 6-8 months ago. Millions of tax dollars were appropriated and spent in this process. There is a paper trail a mile long leading directly to the White House.
A bit of a difference between planning for the shutdown and orchestrating it, the Tea party Republicans were threatening to shut down the government over Obamacare for a long time.
What a farce, in a democratic government you don’t legislate by intimidation, blackmail, and threats, if anyone wants to change a law you get the right number of people elected and get enough votes to change it, you don’t do it via the backdoor through budgeting via a minority. Any stance but no negotiation would have been disastrous for our kind of government, you might have to negotiate the level of funding but you don’t override a passed law completly by defunding.
