Facebook Post:  Body Bags Sent To Northern Reservation

Ebola is spreading unchecked across the remote Northern regions of Canada as people start to flee the cities. “It’s like nothing I have ever seen” said Health Minister Warren Higgins. The city of Rae Lakes, North West Territories, has been completely evacuated according to one source.

The Canadian Government has issued a complete news blackout on the current Ebola crisis but details have started to leak out via social media. A Facebook post claimed (shortly before it was removed) that the residents of one Northern town had been hoping for medical supplies and infectious disease specialists to arrive on last nights supply plane but all that had arrived was hundreds of body bags. A picture of the body bags was online for aproximately 45 minutes this morning before it was removed. It seems there is a complete online blackout of any information. 

Infected people could be heading towards major cities such as Toronto or Calgary seeking medical treatment, unwittingly infecting major population centers in the process.

During the 2009 H1N1 crisis in Canada, the already overworked and disorganized health care system in Ontario broke down completely. According to the Toronto Star “Overwhelmed by crowds in excess of 1,000 people, Toronto closed its two H1N1 vaccine clinics just hours after opening them.”

“Even within this province, public health is delivered in a disjointed, inefficient manner. Ontario has 36 public health units. Many are quite small, while some straddle various political boundaries. Jurisdictional silos get in the way of coordinated action. In emergency response, you need command and control” Dr. Vivek Goel of the Ontario Agency for Health Protection told the Star‘s editorial board Thursday. “That aspect of the system still needs to be addressed.”
