Much like Sherman McCoy in “Bonfire of the Vanities” who misses his turn on the thruway and gets lost in the South Bronx, Abby finds herself in trouble after finding a dead hooker and gets help from an unlikely source. She runs the gauntlet of corrupt police and prosecutor, an undercover cop, drug dealers and a highly successful property forfeiture scheme.

Carrying heavy guilt, Abby does the best she can against the forces arrayed against her.
Even though the book by Ms E.C. Diskin is the author’s first book, I could barely put the book down and learned enough about forfeiture laws to make my blood boil. This book was started in 2004. Let’s hope the sequel is out soon.
