A strange phenomena is happening in some Russian forests. People are finding strange, deep holes.

“…This claim has been making it’s rounds on Facebook again recently, although it’s been around for many years. A quick search brings up literally hundreds of sites in several different languages within the last 12 years about this. Most of them have the same wording, with no real information on any of them, and no pictures of any other holes than the one pictured here. There are plenty of hypothesis however, ranging from them being natural sinkholes to claims of them being samples of earth taken by aliens. One claim even went as far as saying that they are dug from below by “mole people.” Looking at the hole you can clearly see it was drilled by the horizontal marks on the walls, which eliminates the chances that it is a sinkhole or a naturally occurring phenomenon…”

Well, from the ground around this hole (and other photos I think are the same hole, not shown here), it looks like a bore-hole, but the inside of the hole does not appear to be made by conventional rotation-boring methods, and the diameter is a real monster not to have any tailings piles nearby. Also, the way the orifice is cut, it looks like it was ‘bored from beneath’. Really, it looks like the soil from the bore was taken out from below, instead of above – either that, or these holes are HUNDREDS of years old – which then goes into the realm of ‘nuh huh, they did NOT do that with stone age tools!’ Finally, the top 1-ft or so of the bore hole looks relatively freshly cut. Without any vegetation growing on the dirt of that first foot of bore, I’m not really sure what to make of it, as an untouched bore hole will normally grow over to the depth of conventional peat-based soils, like this. There are no vines, no root runners, nothing down in there, so again, looks fresh, except the forest floor doesn’t support that idea.
Ok, I only did engineering for 27 years – and this is a real mystery (that I’d love to go see, actually). Until then, all I can say is – BET THOSE FOUNTAINS-OF-THE-DEEP SURE CAN FLOW OUT OF THOSE GIANT BORES REALLY, REALLY FAST (as in millions of gallons per minute! – think BP Oil Spill fast).
