they do this quite literally ALL THE TIME. pretty much every other episode has a plot line ripped from current events. i remember, for instance, a Terry Schiavo inspired plotline about BFFs being authorized to request the termination of life support that aired just as her life support was shut off. this isn’t the first time they’ve done this. one of the recent prior episodes was about the Redskins name change.

quite correct, StraightDopes. These guys literally create and finish an episode the nigh before it airs. This guy is embarasing the way he throws around all the buzz words that make people laugh.
Some of this programming is like seeing two trains, facing eachother, on the same track, going 1mph, and predicting what will happen.
The writers of South Park write each episode the week before the show is aired, that is why all the episodes are very relavant
is that the case? i always wondered why the episodes seemed to very timely.
Though their means tend to be crude, South Park tends to do a really good job of encapsulating powerful social commentary that is very timely and often more profound that people might give the show credit for. This method of rapid production allows them to always be putting out shows that speak to current events. Its essentially a 30 min political cartoon sometimes.

Any casual viewer can tell you this. They follow all the biggest stories, start writing and change the script as developments are made.
