LISTEN: “It’s About the Cross…It’s About My Sin” — Via the Wayfaring Gal (5/5/2024)

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. (Matt 10:38)

What a beautiful song with wonderful lyrics depicting why Jesus came to save all who would come to Him.

In many places in the Scriptures, Jesus commanded us to pick up our own personal cross and follow Him:

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matt 16:24)

And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Mark 8:34)

Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. (Mark 10:21)

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23)

Conversely, this is what Jesus said would happen if we did NOT pick up our own cross and follow Him:

And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. (Matt 10:38)

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:27)

I think it’s interesting to note that Jesus was led to death and that we are to follow Him. He walked the narrow way to Calvary to die. The cross is an instrument of death.

We are all commanded to enter in at the strait gate and walk the narrow way to our own spiritual death, where we will find eternal life at the end of this narrow way road. This is the walk through the valley of the shadow of death spoken of in Psalm 23.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. (John 12:24)

The narrow way walk brings us to the lowest room, to the pit, into this mysterious spiritual death; mostly unknown and denied by today’s church:

Luke 14:8-11:

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; (Luke 14:8)
And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. (Luke 14:9)
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. (Luke 14:10)
For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. (Luke 14:11)

It is here, in the lowest room, where we wait for the appointed time; and Jesus will come and show us His divine agape love (1John 3:1). This is the sin that condemns us: the lack of God’s divine agape love.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. (Luke 18:22)

It all starts with us seeking FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and picking up our own cross, and entering in at the strait gate, and walking the narrow way, until the end; and culminates in regeneration at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1Pet 1:13).

Revelation 3:20 is oftentimes used by the false teachers and preachers as a way of an instant “salvation”; but it is not. Revelation 3:20 is a figure of Jesus manifesting himself to the true believer (John 14:21) at the end of the narrow way walk:

Rev 3:20-22:

Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20)
To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (Rev 3:21)
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. (Rev 3:22)

The definition of “overcome” in Strong’s is #G3528:
νικάω
nikaō
nik-ah’-o
From G3529; to subdue (literally or figuratively):—conquer, overcome, prevail, get the victory.

To “overcome” does not sound like “saying a sincere sinner’s prayer” to me; so beware the broad ways of the false teachers and preachers of today!

It’s About The Cross | The Ball Brothers | Lyrics:

LYRICS

It’s All About the Cross

It’s not just about the manger
Where the baby lay
It’s not all about the angels
Who sang for him that day
It’s not all about the shepherds
Or the bright and shining star
It’s not all about the wise-men
Who traveled from afar

It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It’s about the cross

It’s not just about the good things
In this life I’ve done
It’s not all about the treasures
Or the trophies that I’ve won
It’s not about the righteousness
That I find within
It’s all about His precious blood
That saved me from my sin

It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It’s about the cross

The beginning of the story
Is wonderful and great
But it’s the ending that can save you
And that’s why we celebrate

It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about God’s Son
Nailed to a tree
It’s about every drop of blood that flowed from Him
When it should have been me

It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
So that you and I could have real life someday

It’s about the cross
It’s about the cross
It’s about the cross

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1Cor 2:9)
