Blizzard Conditions Likely Today Through Sunday Morning For Some New England Areas As Nor’easter Develops

(TheWeatherSpace.com) – A strong surface low has prompted me to issue an upgrade to yesterday’s TWS Blizzard Watch from Eastern Long Island through Maine and now TWS Blizzard Warning is in effect through Sunday morning as a strong nor’easter bombs offshore.

The final snowfall chart has been released and it isn’t much different than originally thought.  The scale was revised to fit an error in the forecast and this scale will now be used as standard.  The storm is already ongoing across the area and it will continue to strengthen as the day moves along.  Heavy snowfall is likely across New York City, Long Island, CT/MA/RI, Southeast NH, and much of Maine through tonight.

Thundersnow is possible from New York City eastward through the TWS Blizzard Warning zone as positive vorticity advection with the system looks strong enough for thunderstorms … and it should be all snow across the thunderstorm producing areas once they move northward off the ocean.  Given the surface low’s track … Rhode Island stands to be in the prime position for higher snowfall totals all the way to the coast, as well as the Cape Cod, MA zones.

Wind gusts in response to the surface low will gust well over 35+mph for over three hours and this means the official blizzard criteria will be made.  TWS Blizzard Watches yesterday were issued and now this is the official Blizzard Warning upgrade.  Visibility will be 1/4 a mile or less so keep this in mind.

The gusts will continue across the area through tonight and Sunday morning, prolonging the blizzard conditions.  Even if snow is not falling … after the storm passes the wind gusts will still be strong out of the northwest, thus continuing the blizzard conditions.
