450,000 People Without Power During North Carolina Ice Storm Last Night

(TheWeatherSpace.com) – A powerful Ice Storm hit West-Central North Carolina overnight on Thursday and lasting through Friday morning, bringing widespread power outages to the region.  The area was within the TWS Ice Storm Warning issued before the event.

An Ice Storm Warning was issued here at TheWeatherSpace.com at Thursday March 6, 2014 at 5:00pm local time.  The ice storm wording was as followed;

A strong surface low deepening off the Carolina coasts tonight will bring gusty winds to the Ice Storm Warning zones.  Freezing ground temperatures on the northern side of the storm will bring heavy freezing rain in a zone stretching from Charlotte and Hickory, NC, northeastward through Greensboro, NC overnight tonight through Friday morning.

The calculations are that a convergence zone setting up over Greensboro, NC will bring that area the highest ice storm values, values over 0.50″ of ice accumulation.  Residents of Greensboro, NC need to be prepared for power outages.

Gusty winds accompanying this storm will make for a dangerous event and this aids the storm to produce even more power outages than without wind.
