Inverted Trough Weather System To Bring Widespread Storm Activity To Southern California Over Weekend

Southern California Weather Central.com – It is almost here, an inverted trough weather system is approaching the Southern California area, which will impact the region on Saturday and Sunday.  Beach goers are being warned to be cautious due to thunderstorms being likely in the area and statements are issued for such.

Currently, the inverted trough is located at the Mexico and Arizona border.  It is at a weak state right now and it will start to spin faster as Saturday morning comes around.  Later on Saturday, this will become a full inverted trough and even a possible closed low feature right over Southern California.  This will promote strong lifting across the area.  Strong and widespread upper divergence and ascent will push lifting factors into the positive value without the need for mountain regions.   This means that during the storm’s peak, widespread activity can form at the coast and basin areas.

The initial deformation zone of the storm will be arc’d across Southern California from south-southwest to north-northeast on Saturday.   It will impact the central forecast area first … and then impact areas east of the Inland Empire as Saturday night into Sunday morning moves around.  An actual front is likely with this type of system so there shouldn’t be any reason that almost 100% of viewers in the forecast area’s statement zones will not report something.  The system is a 1 in every 10 year event for the month of August.

Storm activity in the Western Forecast area should stick around through Sunday, which includes part of OC, Catalina, LA, Ventura, and Kern County with the divergence zone … A separate zone will ignite the San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino Mountain and Desert regions, including the Banning Pass Sunday afternoon/evening on the other side of what will be an upper level low over Los Angeles by then.  A number of mixed dynamics at play so the storm is a tricky one to forecast.
