El Nino is developing across the equator and this year looks like the type of year that will be typical of an El Nino.  A strong southern branch jet stream will bring storm after storm into the Western United States through California.  Projections here at Weather Alert Central.com shows the track of most of these storms heading through TX as drier systems and emerging as powerful surface lows to impact the Southeast USA and Carolina States.  These lows may push up the East Coast as Noreasters, which tend to increase in El Ninos.  However, as the map shows, we have average levels of precipitation for the Mid-Atlantic and below average for much of the Northeast and New England areas.

The temperatures as a result of this upper level pattern in December, January and February will be a flip flop of cold east warm west.  With tropical connections this season, the Western United States will no doubt be warmer than average.  These will cause numerous severe storms and a drought relief to California.  Regardless of this being El Nino, the Pacific Northwest (which is usually dry in Ninos) will be above average in precipitation all in part due to the way the jet connection hits California.

The resulting pattern will bring below normal precipitation for The Plains, Ozarks, and the Ohio River Valley areas.
